Voltalia Begins Construction of the World’s Largest Solar Power Plant. There Will Be Two Plants Located in RN, Part of the Serra Branca Complex, with a Total Capacity of 2.4 GW
RN has gained prominence in recent days on the global solar energy map. The French company Voltalia has started the construction of the Solar Serra do Mel 1 and Solar Serra do Mel 2 plants, which together total a capacity of 320 MW. Voltalia’s projects are part of the Serra Branca Complex, the largest solar and wind energy venture in the world, which when completed will have an installed capacity of 2.4 GW, with wind power parks already in operation and several MW still under development.

The project of the largest hybrid park in the RN region is so significant that it was necessary to develop the TRANSFORMING WITH ENERGY project: Training and Empowerment Program by Voltalia, to promote local development in regions where the company is present.
The project was inaugurated in August of this year, with the beginning of the Professional Qualification Course for Photovoltaic System Assemblers, in partnership with CWSE Brasil Company.

The course is free, aimed at residents of Serra do Mel – RN, and lasts for 3 months, with theoretical and practical classes, as well as a specific HSE program.
The classes are in-person and follow all health and safety protocols, with tests every 15 days for all participants, including teachers and students.
At the end of the course, the graduating students will receive a certificate that aims not only to professionally qualify the local residents for future job openings in Voltalia’s projects but also for the job market.
Five Long-Term Contracts
According to Voltalia, the commissioning of the two solar power plants in RN will occur in the first half of next year. The projects already have five long-term sales contracts with companies such as Braskem and Copel.
The solar and wind plants are being constructed between the municipalities of Areia Branca (RN) and Serra do Mel (RN), strategic locations well-known for having excellent solar energy conditions and strong winds for wind energy.
According to Robert Klein, President of Voltalia in Brazil, the two energy sources complement each other, as wind production occurs predominantly at night, while solar occurs during the day, thus this hybrid complex model takes advantage of the synergy of the sources and the shared energy outflow structure to create more profitable and competitive projects.
Voltalia Creates Opportunities and Jobs
In addition to developing solar and wind power plant projects, like the RN project, the company also contributes by generating courses to train future employees. In the same state, job openings were created in free courses in Serra do Mel to generate jobs at the company’s future solar energy plant. In August, Voltalia opened a public notice for various positions in free courses in Bahia in partnership with Senai.
The aim of these opportunities was to create a workforce in the municipalities of Jeremoabo and Canudos for its wind farm and future job openings in the construction sector.
According to Klein, the company operates seriously to boost the economy, income, and local development and also states that it is necessary to unite forces, such as the partnership with Senai. The qualifications aim not only to offer professional training to residents for future Voltalia projects but also for the entire future job market in the renewable energy sector.
