WEG Provided High Voltage Motors For Project Considered The Largest With Combined Cycle Gas Turbine In Central Asia!
WEG, the Brazilian giant and global leader in manufacturing turbines, motors, and other equipment, supplied 11 high voltage motors for the project considered the largest combined cycle gas turbine project in Central Asia.
The production of the high voltage motors took place at WEG’s factory located in Nantong, China, which currently has a manufacturing structure and facility that matches those in its headquarters in Brazil, in addition to providing an important logistical point by being closer to the final destination of the products, in Uzbekistan.
The 1,500MW independent combined cycle gas power generation project, installed in Syr Darya, Uzbekistan, was envisioned through the companies China Energy Construction Gezhouba Group (CGGC) and Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co (ZTPC).

According to WEG, the success of the supply was due to the cooperation and trust that OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) have in the Brazilian multinational regarding its experience in producing state-of-the-art products, robustness, high energy efficiency, and competitiveness.
The high voltage motors manufactured by WEG have a total power of 60,660KW and were applied respectively in centrifugal compressors from Royal Turbo Engineering, water circulation pumps and long shaft pumps from Leo Group, as well as condensation pumps from Ebara Pumps.
The largest gas plant in Central Asia is located 5 kilometers west of Shilin County, Syr Darya, Uzbekistan, about 150 kilometers from the capital Tashkent, with a construction area of approximately 75 hectares.
Plant Will Benefit Millions of Residents in Uzbekistan.
This is the first IPP project and the largest power plant in the country, in addition to being the most advanced 9H gas turbine in the world. Besides attracting foreign investments and development to Uzbekistan, the project makes full use of the abundant local resources of water and natural gas.
The project adopts the gas turbine with the highest combustion temperature, greatest individual power, and highest efficiency in the world, featuring a design scheme of “zero wastewater discharge.” It is the leading high-efficiency energy-saving and environmental protection project in the world. With the capacity to supply over 36 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the local grid every day, it benefits millions of residents in Uzbekistan.
The planned livelihoods project by Uzbekistan is considered one of the most important in the country. According to local conditions and combined cycle technology, the nominal contracted net power generation capacity of the proposed plant site should be 1,500 MW.
Furthermore, the electricity generated by the plant is exported to the national grid of Uzbekistan through the special electrical facilities of the power plant/automatic identification system (AIS) 500 kV/220 kV under this project. The configuration of the plant is based on the principle of the power block in a 2+1 configuration: two multi-shaft units, each consisting of two gas turbines, HRSGs, and a steam turbine unit and associated auxiliary facilities, form a power block.
This supply is another important reference for WEG and demonstrates the company’s capability in producing solutions for large renewable energy generation projects.
