Understand How the Technical Partnership Between the Two Giants Strengthens Oil Exploration in the Pre-Salt and Boosts the Economy of the Offshore Sector
Weighty Partnership Moves the Brazilian Offshore Sector
A new strategic partnership has just moved the oil and gas sector in Brazil.
In May 2025, Wilson Sons, a company with 187 years of history in maritime transport, announced a technical contract with TotalEnergies EP Brasil.
With this, the agreement guarantees complete logistical support for TotalEnergies’ operations in the Lapa Field, located in the Santos Basin, one of the most promising areas of the Brazilian pre-salt.

Moreover, the contract also includes support for exploratory campaigns of the French multinational in its assets in the country.
The Rio Base, located in the Guanabara Bay, will be the center of operations conducted by Wilson Sons.

Cutting-Edge Infrastructure and Strategic Location
The partnership with TotalEnergies further reinforces Wilson Sons’ role as a benchmark in offshore support in Brazil.
Currently, the company maintains two private bases in Guanabara Bay — Rio Base and Niterói Base — with a combined capacity of eight berths.
Additionally, the company is recognized for its expertise in remote operations, including the installation of temporary bases at strategic ports along the Brazilian coast.
According to Mariana Jannuzzi, Executive Director of Offshore Support Bases at Wilson Sons:
“This contract with TotalEnergies reinforces confidence in our operational excellence. Safety, sustainability, and efficiency are priorities at every step of our operations.”
With this positioning, the company reaffirms its commitment to leadership in the offshore segment.
Rio Base: Technology and Integrated Services
The Rio Base, located in the Caju neighborhood, port area of Rio de Janeiro, is one of the most modern offshore logistics infrastructures in Brazil.
The facility covers an area of over 65,000 square meters and has five berths, which are strategically positioned to quickly serve the pre-salt fields.
Among the services offered, the following stand out:
- Cargo handling and storage
- Inventory control with high-tech systems
- Specialized environmental services
- Fluid and bulk plant
- Facilities to support drilling campaigns
Thanks to this combination of services, the Rio Base allows for efficient, safe, and sustainable operations.
Sustainability as a Competitive Differential
In addition to logistical operations, Wilson Sons and TotalEnergies are developing joint sustainability projects.
These initiatives, which are already underway, include:
- Advanced water management
- Waste management focused on circular economy
- Energy optimization to reduce carbon footprint
In this way, both companies reaffirm their commitment to a sustainable offshore development model.
Guaxindiba Pipe Park Expands Support for Operations
The contract also includes land support, highlighting the Guaxindiba Pipe Park, located just 20 kilometers from the Niterói Base.
Additionally, this unit offers an area of 63,000 square meters and specialized services, such as:
- Inspection and hydrojetting of pipes
- Storage of drilling pipes and equipment
- Licensed operations with strict environmental compliance
- Highly qualified team
With this land support, which complements maritime operations, Wilson Sons ensures integrated and high-performance logistics.
Strategic Impact on Pre-Salt Development
The new partnership further strengthens Wilson Sons’ position as one of the main players in offshore logistical support in Brazil.
Moreover, the agreement with TotalEnergies boosts the development of the Brazilian pre-salt, which today stands out as one of the largest global oil reserves.
Industry experts point out that this advancement can generate sustainable economic growth, new skilled jobs, and technological innovation.
However, it will be essential to adopt efficient governance, focusing on transparency and environmental responsibility, to ensure long-lasting benefits to the country.
Thus, the exploration of the pre-salt can truly contribute to the future of the Brazilian economy.
