Woodside Finances Innovative Cold Plasma Project Led by Rice, With Potential for Application in Emerging Technologies and Production of Derived Products. Global Leader.
Rice University and Woodside Energy have formed a partnership aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing low-carbon solutions. Woodside’s investment of US$ 12.5 million will fund the establishment of the Woodside-Rice Decarbonization Accelerator, an initiative focused on bringing innovative decarbonization technology developed in Rice’s laboratories to market.
The Accelerator aims to promote the commercialization of technologies focused on manufacturing products from captured carbon dioxide and methane. Rice University is exploring cold plasma technology, a unique approach to breaking down carbon dioxide in order to develop materials to enhance batteries, transistors, and other energy technologies.
Collaboration in Cold Plasma Technology to Achieve Climatic Goals
‘Net Zero is not a destination, but a journey. Over the next 10 years, emerging and innovative technologies need to reach the market if society wants to meet its climate goals’, stated Woodside CEO, Meg O’Neill. ‘We are proud to work with a world-class university like Rice to help tackle this challenge.’
