Chainless Bicycle Introduced By French Startup With Electronic System That Eliminates Traditional Mechanical Transmission, Converts Pedaling Energy Into Electricity, Adjusts Resistance In Real Time, Reduces Maintenance, Operates Even Without A Charged Battery, And Was Designed To Last Up To 50,000 Kilometers Of Continuous Use
The French company Cixi developed a motor that allows you to pedal a bicycle without a chain or belt, replacing traditional mechanical transmission with an electronic system that converts the pedaling energy into electricity, with a direct impact on comfort, maintenance, and the way assistance is provided to the cyclist.
PERS System Eliminates Chain And Belt In Transmission
Cixi developed a motor that allows you to pedal a bicycle without a chain or belt through the PERS, Pedal Energy Recovery System. The technology directly transforms the cyclist’s effort into electricity, eliminating conventional chain, belt, and gearbox.
The system uses a fully electronic crankset, responsible for generating electrical power from pedaling. This energy powers the bicycle’s motor and can be stored in an integrated battery, maintaining operation even without traditional mechanical transmission.

36 PET bottles become the “tank” of an engine without gasoline, without diesel, and without a battery, created by students, which uses compressed air to make a tricycle move on its own at 10 km/h for up to 750 meters and demonstrates an unlikely alternative to traditional combustion.

The lawnmower you know is on borrowed time; an autonomous robot that maps the entire terrain, avoids everything on its own, and works non-stop has just arrived on the Brazilian market. But while in the United States it has already become a basic item, here the price ranges from R$ 7 thousand to R$ 24 thousand and separates those who can have the future from those who will continue sweating in the backyard.

Marine scientist warns that almost half of the world’s beaches could disappear, as sea level rise and urbanization crush dunes, accelerate coastal erosion, and leave entire cities more exposed to storms, loss of tourism, and ecosystem destruction.
Automatic Resistance Adaptation During Pedaling
In PERS, the resistance felt by the cyclist is adjusted in real time according to the pedaling rhythm. The system eliminates gear shifts or mechanical adjustments, ensuring a continuous and smooth experience during use.
The greater the force applied to the pedals, the greater the amount of electrical energy generated. The system also allows the direction of pedaling to be reversed with a simple action from the cyclist, enhancing flexibility of use in different situations.
Assistance Modes And Operation Without A Charged Battery
Even with the battery drained, the bicycle continues to move, as the energy generated by pedaling directly powers the motor. This ensures that the cyclist maintains control of the effort without being entirely dependent on electronics.
The system offers five modes of assistance: Muscular, Active, Balanced, Punch, and Dynamite. The battery stores energy from pedaling and regenerative braking, potentially increasing torque when necessary. Regenerative braking can provide up to 25% more autonomy and reduce wear on the pads.
System Weight And Reduction Of Mechanical Maintenance
The PERS pedal set weighs 3.5 kg and was designed to operate for up to 50,000 km without major interventions. The absence of conventional transmission reduces the number of mechanical components subject to wear.
With fewer moving parts, the system generates less noise and eliminates the need for grease, avoiding stains on clothing. Cixi developed a motor that allows you to pedal a bicycle without a chain or belt also focusing on expanding applications beyond individual use, according to the initial project of the French startup based in Haute-Savoie.
