Equipped with cameras, sensors, and lighting, the robot dog DOM has already conducted five inspections in pipelines between Santos and Guarujá, facing mud, humidity, sand, and toxic gases without directly exposing workers to dangerous confined environments

The robot dog DOM has already conducted five inspections in pipelines connecting the Santos Port Channel to the Vicente de Carvalho district in Guarujá. Remotely controlled, the equipment faces mud, sand, humidity, and toxic gases, reducing workers’ exposure in confined spaces.

Robot dog DOM enhances safety in inspections

Equipped with cameras, lighting, and sensors, DOM collects information during inspections and transmits the data in real-time to a Sabesp database. Its operational autonomy reaches up to two hours.

The equipment is controlled by occupational safety engineers and was developed in partnership with TPF Engenharia. The technology allows for the evaluation of hard-to-access areas before team entry.

Pipeline will supply Vicente de Carvalho

The inspected pipeline will be responsible for supplying the Vicente de Carvalho district. The Sabesp project receives a total investment of R$ 134.7 million.

According to Andrenandes Gonçalves, Maintenance and Operational Services Manager at Sabesp in Baixada Santista, the use of the robot makes operations safer and more efficient.

Sabesp considers expanding use of technology

After the operations conducted between Santos and Guarujá, the company is considering using the robot dog DOM in other sanitation projects in the state of São Paulo.

The meaning of the name DOM was not provided by Sabesp after questioning by g1.
