New US military jet promises greater range, integration with drones and unprecedented air superiority. F-47 is part of the NGAD program and is expected to enter service by the end of the decade.
The new F-47 sixth-generation fighter has been officially unveiled as the U.S. Air Force’s next combat aircraft, designed to replace the iconic F-22 Raptor. Featuring more advanced stealth technology, greater range and integration with unmanned systems, the model will be manufactured by Boeing as part of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program.
The revelation was made by President Donald Trump in March 2025, during a speech broadcast by the American press. According to Reuters sources, Boeing secured a contract estimated at US$ 20 billion, beating the traditional Lockheed Martin, responsible for the F-22 and F-35 models.
Boeing takes the lead with the F-47 as a replacement for the F-22 Raptor
The choice of the Boeing F-47 marks a turning point in the defense sector, dominated in recent decades by Lockheed. According to the Business Insider website, the project was selected after a competition between major manufacturers, being considered more efficient in terms of stealth and strategic range.

According to the Aéreo portal, the F-47 sixth-generation fighter will have superior performance to the F-22, with extended range and more integrated sensors. The aircraft will also be compatible with autonomous drones, operating in coordinated squadrons to increase lethality in aerial operations.
Next-generation stealth technologies and sensory fusion
Full specifications are still classified, but initial data reveals advances such as:
- Stealth invisible to new generation radars
- Expanded reach for operations in the Pacific and Asia
- Real-time sensor fusion for the pilot
- Armed drone control and coordination capabilities
As reported by The Sun on March 24, 2025, the aircraft's design includes smoother lines, no vertical tail and internal weapons bays, maximizing capacity radar detection evasion.
Strategic impact and expected start of operations
The F-47 joins US efforts to maintain supremacy air force in the face of China and Russia's military advances. According to the AS portal, the jet should be delivered to the Air Force between 2028 and 2030, entering into operation with the first squadrons at Edwards base in California.
The Pentagon's goal is to have at least 150 operational units by 2032, reinforcing the doctrine of technological deterrence in the field of military aviation.
