Discover How the GR-1, the Personal Care Robot from Shanghai, Will Fit Perfectly into the Daily Lives of the Elderly, Offering Everything from Mobility to Companionship.
Shanghai, China – The rapid increase in the number of elderly people in China is no secret. In light of this scenario, Fourier Intelligence, a technology company based in Shanghai, launches its humanoid robot, the GR-1, with the mission of revolutionizing elderly care.
The announcement was made between July 6 and 8 at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, marking a turning point in the robotics landscape.
A Solution for the Future
The Chinese population is aging rapidly. According to data from the National Health System, the number of individuals aged 60 and older is expected to rise from 280 million to over 400 million by 2035. “We have to think outside the box.

Technology has to take a step forward, and that’s where our robots come in”, says a representative from Fourier Intelligence, the primary source of this information.

GR-1: More Than a Robot
The GR-1 is not just a bunch of screws and gears. It is equipped with cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and has been developed to be a true caregiver.
With 44 degrees of freedom throughout its body and a peak torque module of 230NM, this robot is capable of transporting patients with reduced mobility to wheelchairs and even hold objects like bottles. The goal is to make it an assistant or even a companion for elderly people living alone.
What Does This Mean for Brazil?
China is not the only country facing an increase in its elderly population. Brazil is expected to follow the same path starting in 2030. How will we prepare for this demographic shift? Certainly, robot technology like the GR-1 offers a glimpse into what our future may hold.
Technical Details
The GR-1 weighs 55kg and has a height of 165cm, with a maximum speed of 5km/h. The Embodied AI technology used in it has significant applications across various fields, from industry to research.
About Fourier Intelligence
Located in Shanghai, China, Fourier Intelligence is a landmark in the technology and healthcare industry. Since its inception, the company has focused on providing robotic products and services in exoskeletons for rehabilitation and orthopedics. A pioneer in this segment, Fourier went further and announced, in 2017, its commercial exoskeleton product for lower limbs.
