International investment repositions Ipanema in LGBTQIA+ luxury tourism with new hotel, expanding the region’s global visibility and reinforcing the economic weight of one of the travel sector’s most profitable segments.

Ipanema Beach, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, has returned to the center of international LGBTQIA+ tourism with The Tryst Ipanema project, a luxury hotel planned to occupy the former Ipanema Plaza, at the corner of Rua Farme de Amoedo and Rua Prudente de Morais.

The development will feature 140 rooms spread across 18 floors, in addition to a restaurant, event area, and rooftop pool, reinforcing its high-standard proposal focused on the public’s experience.

The reported investment for the property purchase is approximately R$ 80 million, with the assumption of debts that could reach R$ 10 million, consolidating one of the main recent movements in the city’s hotel sector.

The opening, initially scheduled for 2026, appears in a more recent update with a forecast for February 2027, according to market information.

LGBTQIA+ Hotel in Ipanema Expands International Projection

The choice of location was not by chance and is directly linked to the region’s history as a space for coexistence and visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Over the past decades, Rua Farme de Amoedo has established itself as one of the main meeting points for this public in Brazil, bringing together bars, restaurants, and intense tourist traffic.

A few meters away, the stretch of Ipanema Beach near Posto 9 began to reflect this identity more clearly, becoming an international reference.

Rainbow flags, diversity of styles, and a constant presence of tourists helped transform the area into one of the most recognized community spaces in the world.

The founder and CEO of Tryst Hospitality, Tristan Schukraft, associated the project with Ipanema’s global image.

He stated that being there is “about freedom” and described the beach as the “gayest in the world,” reinforcing an already widespread international perception.

Farme de Amoedo Consolidates Historical Role in LGBTQIA+ Tourism

Before attracting millionaire investments, Farme de Amoedo already functioned as a symbolic and cultural territory for the LGBTQIA+ community in Rio de Janeiro.

Since the 1980s, commercial establishments began to openly welcome this public, during a period when visibility was still limited in the country.

Over the years, the space ceased to be merely a meeting point and transformed into a national and international reference.

This process accompanied important social changes, expanding the presence of diversity in urban spaces and strengthening the region’s identity.

During the day, the beach is occupied by residents and tourists seeking leisure, rest, and coexistence in a welcoming environment.

At night, the dynamic changes, with bars and restaurants enlivening the street and creating an entertainment hub that attracts different audiences.

The new hotel emerges as an extension of this already consolidated vocation, transforming spontaneous flow into a structured tourism product.

The Tryst’s Structure Bets on Luxury and Integrated Experience

The Tryst Ipanema will be the brand’s largest unit in the world, according to information from the hotel sector, expanding the network’s presence in strategic destinations.

The former Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza building will undergo a complete renovation to accommodate new environments and services.

Highlights of the project include an infinity-edge rooftop pool, social areas, and a restaurant with an international gastronomic proposal, aligned with the brand’s luxury standard.

The network also plans a continuous program of events aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community, including parties and experiences connected to the region’s social life.

The proposal goes beyond traditional accommodation, seeking to integrate the hotel into Ipanema’s daily life and expand its role as a social space.

The former Ipanema Plaza had been closed since 2017, which reinforces the impact of reoccupying a property located on one of the neighborhood’s most well-known corners.

The reactivation of the space represents a significant change for the urban and tourist dynamics of the area.

LGBTQIA+ tourism is considered one of the most lucrative segments of the global travel industry, moving billions of dollars every year.
