The CEO of BMW Group, Alexander Wehr, recently stated that he is confident in increasing production at the Araquari factory, located in the state of Santa Catarina. The executive also said that the company is celebrating good results in Latin America and Brazil leads the performance, having increased sales by nearly 43% in 2020 and escaping the crisis brought to the country by the coronavirus pandemic.
Alexander Wehr, CEO of the German group, stated that Brazil leads the performance, having increased sales by nearly 43% in 2020 and escaping the crisis brought to the country by the coronavirus pandemic, comfortably leading the premium car market with over 30% market share in the segment. While many countries in the region will take two to three years to recover, Brazil is the only place in the world where we have already grown more than in the pre-pandemic period,” said the BMW executive.
The CEO says that it is true that Brazil has already delivered more, but it is far from being the market with the greatest potential in Latin America, with a young population, a diversified economy, and receptiveness to new technologies. According to him, “We are confident in the country. We have the capacity to produce more at the Araquari factory, but we do not regret having made the investment because it is strategic in the long term, and we will invest again as soon as growth returns.”
