The arrival of GWM in Brazil represents not only a new competitor but also a significant investment in jobs and technology.
The new factory, which will bring to life the much-anticipated Haval H6 models and the Poer pickup, is the starting point for the automaker’s long-term strategy, which aims for sustainable growth and a strong presence in the national landscape.
The Legacy of a Factory and the New Cycle
The location chosen for the installation of GWM has a relevant history for the national automotive industry.
The industrial complex belonged to Mercedes-Benz until 2021 when the German automaker ended its production of light vehicles in Brazil.
GWM acquired the facilities in the same year, initiating an ambitious project for adaptation and modernization.
The acquisition, which ensured the maintenance of the industrial structure and the revitalization of the area, symbolizes a new cycle for the Iracemápolis region and a recovery of the local productive capacity.
The arrival of GWM marks the beginning of a new era where the technology and future vision of the Chinese company merge with the legacy of a factory that was once a symbol of excellence.
Production and Market Strategy of GWM
The new factory begins its operations with a robust and diversified process, which includes local painting and surface treatment, welding of components and final assembly.
This level of investment in the production chain from the outset demonstrates GWM’s seriousness about establishing itself in Brazil.
The complex has a capacity to produce up to 50 thousand vehicles per year, but will start with a more moderate pace, around 30 thousand units annually, a strategy aimed at ensuring the quality and stability of operations.
Initially, the factory will produce Haval H6 SUVs, already a sales success in the country through imports, and the anticipated Poer pickup, which promises to be a strong competitor in its segment.
The local production of these models is a crucial step for GWM, allowing it to optimize costs, reduce reliance on imports, and ultimately offer even more competitive products to Brazilian consumers.
The inauguration is a sign that Brazil’s automotive industry continues to attract major global players, who see in the country a market of great potential and constant evolution.
