Significant Advance With 9.1 GW Of Installed Capacity Highlights The Potential Of The Sector
Energy generation through micro and mini distributed generation is on the rise in Brazil, especially in the Southeast region, which has reached an impressive 9.1 GW of installed capacity. This milestone will be one of the main topics discussed by leaders in Distributed Generation (DG) at the 22nd DG Forum – Southeast Region, scheduled to take place in São Paulo in the first week of March.
With participation from 1,668 municipalities, the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo are leading the adoption of photovoltaic solar energy, topping the number of installations, especially in residences. This advance is evidenced by the latest survey from the Brazil Solar Portal, using data from the SIGA system of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), which reveals that energy production by consumers has reached a substantial mark of 27 GW in the country.
Catalysts For The Growth Of Distributed Generation
The expansion of DG is driven by the reduction in equipment costs and the search for more sustainable energy sources. ANEEL points out that the solar sector has seen a growth of over 144% in recent years, correlated with the decrease in solar panel prices. The consultancy Greener highlights a drop of more than 40% in the average price of these panels in 2023, a factor that has kept the sector buoyant even amidst new regulatory and economic challenges.

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

Silicon Valley bets on a 100-hour battery that uses carbon and oxygen to store renewable energy for days and could turn a little-known chemical system into an alternative to critical metal batteries to tackle prolonged blackouts.

Fortescue announces a radical shift by replacing diesel with a system featuring 1.2 GW of solar energy, 600 MW of wind energy, and up to 5 GWh in batteries, a giant project that could save $100 million per year and transform heavy mining into one of the largest 100% renewable operations in the world by 2028.

Canadian engineers want to compress air in underground caverns and build plants of up to 500 MW that function as giant lungs to store renewable energy for hours and stabilize entire electrical grids.
Another important aspect is the consumer’s search for alternatives to reduce energy tariffs, combined with the drop in the price of photovoltaic equipment, reduced interest rates, the availability of credit, and new regulations. According to Tiago Fraga, CEO of Grupo FRG Mídias & Eventos and organizer of the Southeast DG Forum, this scenario results in a growing demand for renewable energy, which combines sustainability and savings.
The Impact Of The Southeast DG Forum
The 22nd Regional Forum on Distributed Generation – Southeast DG Forum will take place on March 6 and 7 at the Villa Blue Tree hotel in São Paulo. The event aims to gather all stakeholders in the DG segment, including suppliers, entrepreneurs, salespeople, investors, and specialists. With expectations to generate over R$ 300 million in business, the forum will be a stage for discussions on growth, challenges, and new technologies in the DG sector in the region.
This meeting is an unmissable opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts in the renewable energy sector to discuss trends, establish partnerships, and explore new horizons in the field of micro and mini energy generation. With the Southeast leading the way, Brazil is firmly advancing toward a more sustainable and energetically independent future.
