The Days Of BYD Dolphin In Brazil May Be Numbered, As JAC Motors Plans To Bring Its Cheapest Electric Car Called YIWEY 3 To Brazil.
Despite having arrived in the Brazilian market a few weeks ago, the BYD Dolphin may be on borrowed time here, as JAC Motors recently announced its electric car called YIWEY 3 in China, which has already been confirmed for Brazil. In China, this will be the primary competitor to the BYD Dolphin, being part of the company’s strategy to launch a sub-brand of the JAC group, which will feature other products.

The design of the YIWEY 3 is a bit more retro, featuring round LED headlights, a slightly oval rear, and hidden door handles, reminiscent of a neo-retro car.
In terms of dimensions, the BYD Dolphin rival measures 4 meters in length, 1.56 m in height, and 1.77 m in width, making it a compact car with a 2.62 m wheelbase. This gives it a size similar to popular cars in Brazil, such as the Onix, HB20, among others.

Toyota Yaris ATIV arrives in the automotive market cheaper, in direct conversion, than Nissan Versa, Honda City, and automatic versions of Onix Plus and HB20S in Brazil; the hybrid sedan has a 1.5 engine, e-CVT, 111 hp, and 29.4 km/l, while the Yaris was discontinued here and continues to be sold in Thailand.
In China, this electric car from JAC Motors costs around US$ 14,500 to US$ 21,800, which directly converts to an average of R$ 68,000. The YIWEY 3 is part of a strategy that will bring three other products, including an SUV, that will use the same platform called DI.
The BYD Dolphin rival has two versions, with the cheaper one equipped with a 70 kW motor, equivalent to 94 horsepower. The more powerful version will have 134 horsepower, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of 150 km/h.
New YIWEY 3 Has 505 km CLTC
Regarding the battery kit, the new electric car offers three different autonomy versions; thus, the more expensive the version, the greater the vehicle’s autonomy, ranging from 305 km in its cheapest version, 405 km in its mid-range version, and 505 km in its most expensive version, all based on the CLTC cycle.
Inside, it features a rounded design with a straight-base steering wheel. Its multimedia screen is 15 inches and, unlike the BYD Dolphin, it is not rotatable; however, its digital panel is small, reminiscent of its rival.
The electric car will be equipped with parking assistance and, in its more expensive version, will have electric seats, electronic steering wheel adjustment, LED mirrors, and various storage compartments. All this in an entry-level electric car. Due to its price being equal to that of the BYD Dolphin, JAC Motors may be considering bringing this vehicle to Brazil soon.
BYD May Launch Electric Car Priced At R$ 55 Thousand In Brazil
Although the YIWEY 3 is a direct competitor to the BYD Dolphin, the Chinese giant has already announced in Salvador details of its investment in the Brazilian electric car market. One of the automaker’s plans is to bring to the country, as early as 2024, the BYD Seagull, the company’s current cheapest model, which costs around R$ 55,000 in direct conversion. BYD is about to confirm a new production unit in Salvador.
The Dolphin, recently launched in Brazil, is a hatchback priced at R$ 149,000 and impresses the market with its technology, which offers internet, video games, voice control, and even karaoke. The global vice president of the automaker, Stella Li, visited the country and participated in a press conference in Bahia. The company’s executive emphasizes that every 5 minutes, the automaker sells two electric cars in the country.
