The Legendary Boeing 727 From Tex Sutton, Nicknamed Air Horse One, Transports Up to 21 Horses Per Flight With Comfort, Safety and Air Conditioning, Assuring Smooth Travels for Animals Valued in Millions of Dollars
Modern aviation goes far beyond the transport of traditional passengers and cargo. A curious and sophisticated example is the “Air Horse One,” a modified Boeing 727 specifically designed for transporting elite horses.
The aircraft belongs to Tex Sutton Equine Air Transportation, an American company founded in 1957 by Halford Ewel “Tex Sutton,” and has become a reference in the industry.
Luxury Transport and Efficiency
Based at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, the modified plane from Kalitta Charters makes about 2,300 annual trips, carrying competition and exhibition horses to destinations around the world.

After working as a waiter for ten years, he borrowed R$ 500 from his brother, created 40-minute lines with an açaí cart on the street, and today runs a farm with 600,000 trees in Pará and a network worth R$ 45 million.
The cost per animal ranges from US$ 3,300 to US$ 5,000, reflecting the standard of comfort and safety provided.
The company also attends major events, such as the Olympic Games, where the speed and well-being of the animals are essential.
Comfort and Safety On Board
The interior of Air Horse One was designed like an air-conditioned stable. Each horse is loaded individually, with reinforced flooring to protect their hooves and special ramps that facilitate loading.
During the flight, the cabin temperature is kept low to prevent overheating, and the animals receive blankets and other personalized care.
Pilots and Future Plans
The pilots follow smooth takeoff and landing procedures, avoiding sharp maneuvers that may stress the live cargo, valued in millions of dollars.
Despite the efficiency of the Boeing 727, Tex Sutton Equine Air Transportation is studying to eventually replace it with a more modern and economical aircraft, without compromising the comfort and safety that have made “Air Horse One” an icon in the skies.
