Alubar Métaux in Canada Obtains Product Environmental Declaration, Ensuring Transparency in Emissions and Compliance with Environmental Regulations.
Alubar recently achieved the Product Environmental Declaration (EPD) for its aluminum rebar, a significant milestone highlighting the company’s commitment to responsible industrial practices. The document details the CO2 equivalent emitted per ton of product, offering a more transparent overview of the environmental impacts associated with production. This achievement reinforces Alubar’s proactive stance towards sustainability, while solidifying its position in the global aluminum rebar market.
Within its Canadian subsidiary, Alubar Métaux exemplifies Alubar’s progress towards full environmental compliance. Part of the Alubar Group, this unit now stands out for implementing strict emissions control standards, aligning itself with international environmental regulations. Currently, Alubar Métaux registers the emission of 5.33 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2 Eq) per ton of aluminum produced. This metric is considered excellent, especially when compared to the standard required to be recognized as a sustainable supplier of rebar, which is the emission of less than 8 tons of CO2 Eq per ton of product. This data reinforces Alubar’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Evaluation and External Audit
The certification that Alubar Métaux possesses evaluates several criteria, including the source of the aluminum used, transportation distances, the type of raw materials, waste management, and energy use. All this information is consolidated in a detailed life cycle report that has been reviewed by external auditors, specifically from the consultancy Ageco. This process ensures that Alubar adheres to high standards of rigor.
Marco Bernardotto, who serves as the director of operations for Alubar in Canada, highlights that the Product Environmental Declaration (EDP) plays a vital role in keeping the company compliant with environmental regulations, which are constantly changing. The EPD provides a standardized framework for measuring and disclosing environmental performance, as well as indicating potential improvements in Alubar’s industrial processes, contributing to causes such as combating climate change. ‘The EPD enriches relationships with customers, investors, and employees, as well as with the community’, emphasizes Bernardotto.
Production and Environmental Certification Alubar
The aluminum rebar manufactured by Alubar in Canada is now accompanied by a Product Environmental Declaration, following a thorough life cycle analysis. For Alubar Métaux, which is dedicated to aluminum transformation, this includes everything from the extraction and processing of bauxite to steps such as transportation and recycling of the final product.
The EPD production process adopted follows the ISO 14025 and 21930 specifications. All necessary information has been audited and validated by an independent consultancy from the United States, Industrial Ecology Consultants, as Bernardotto details. Once completed, the final declaration is made available on the website of the Canadian Standard Association (CSA Group), a prominent global organization in research, development, and advocacy for standards.
