Together With This Unit, 8 More Will Be Decommissioned by 2024 Raising Concerns About the Future of Workers at These Petrobras Units
A P-33 is finally entering its retirement process after Petrobras began a revitalization program for the mature fields in the Campos Basin, unfortunately this unit will have to be decommissioned due to lacking the technology and capacity to potentially be utilized for this project. Its production began in 1998 and in December 2018, this ocean giant will complete 20 years of operations. Its production capacity reaches 50 thousand barrels daily and 1.5 million cubic meters.
In addition to this platform, others will be decommissioned by 2024 starting from 2021, namely:
- 2021: P-26, P-32, and P-35
- 2022: P-18, P-19, P-20, and P-47
- 2024: P-47
Petrobras states that almost all these units that will cease operations in the Campos Basin will be replaced by next-generation FPSOs, already anticipating more detailed studies and additional test drillings in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin. Pedro Parente, the current president of Petrobras, states that this discovery is very interesting and will be fully utilized to the maximum extent possible in the future.

In the ranking of the most productive oil fields in the country, the Marlim Field ranks sixth, currently recording 151 thousand barrels of oil daily, according to official data from ANP (National Agency of Petroleum) this year. A contractual agreement was signed between Petrobras and ANP in 2016 for the Marlim and Voador assets to remain in production until 2052. By then, more production, drilling, and completion platforms with enhanced capacities will be part of the operations, along with the expectation of 10 more wells coming into production.
Besides offshore activities, the onshore oil and gas industry is also strengthening in the country. The Petrochemical Industrial Complex in Rio de Janeiro will start operations by the end of this semester, the Port of Açú will begin construction of the Thermoelectric Plant with many expected hires, and Petroeng is already hiring a lot.
