The natural gas distributor in Rio Grande do Norte, Potigás, resumed its partnership with Petrobras after signing a new contract with the state-owned oil company. The agreement provides for fuel supply for the next eight years, with an expectation of 40 thousand m³/day delivered to the local company only in 2023. For the coming years, the expectation is that the volume will increase considerably, thus expanding the state-owned company’s presence in the state.
Petrobras Resumes Approach with Local Distributor Potigás After Signing Natural Gas Supply Contract for the Next Eight Years
Petrobras has resumed its approach with the local natural gas distributor Potigás after a new contract signing with the company.
The agreement provides for the supply of fuel to the company for the next eight years, thereby expanding the state oil company’s presence in the local gas sector.

ANP schedules oil auctions in October and reinforces regulatory predictability for concessions, sharing, and investments in the oil and gas sector

There is oil below the oil that Brazil already extracts: Petrobras confirmed a new accumulation in the Búzios field, at a depth of 5,600 meters, in a zone below the reservoir already operating in the Santos Basin.

404 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, an oil company drilled 5,855 meters into the ocean and discovered the largest oil and gas reserve found in a quarter of a century.
Initially, the contract stipulates the supply of 40 thousand m³/day to the local distributor. Starting in 2024, this volume will increase to 100 thousand m³/day. This way, Potigás enhances supply security for the fuel while Petrobras becomes increasingly relevant in northeastern Brazil.
In 2021, the state-owned oil company had reduced its presence in the local state, primarily regarding contracts with the distributor.
Now, it resumes its approach with Potigás in a new context, following the arrival of the third Lula Government, which aims to contribute to investments in the state-owned company over the coming years.
The arrival of Jean Paul Prates as the president of the state company is also a decisive factor in the resumption of agreements across the country.
Potigás Had Entered Supply Agreements for Natural Gas with Galp and PetroReconcavo. Petrobras Now Relies on Long-Term Contract in RN
After the reduction of Petrobras’ presence in the distribution of natural gas in Rio Grande do Norte in 2021, Potigás entered into other contracts in the sector.
Among them, it signed a contract with PetroReconcavo for a supply of 236 thousand m³/day until the end of 2023.
In addition, it also has an ongoing agreement with Galp for a volume of 1 thousand m³/day until the end of the year.
Now, it has resumed agreements with Petrobras under the terms of the oil company. The new contract of the state company with the local distributor reinforces the company’s position today, which relies on long-term agreements.
In addition to this agreement, it has projects planned with Gasmig (MG), Compagas (PR), and Sulgás (RS), as well as Cegás (CE), ES Gás (ES), SCGás (SC).
Therefore, Petrobras resumes its position in RN with distributor Potigás and maintains its presence in the national natural gas scenario with the other contracts.
