The Oil Workers of the Union of North Fluminense (Sindipetro-NF) Requested the Closure of the Platform in the Basin of Campos After Declaring the Lack of Workplace Safety
On Tuesday, 31, Sindipetro-NF requested the closure of the P50 platform in the Basin of Campos After Oil Workers Reported a Series of Irregularities. The closure of the platform will occur until operational, health, safety, and environmental conditions are restored, with the request being made to federal, state, and municipal public administration agencies and entities, according to the website Correio Braziliense.
The complaint arose after oil workers in the Basin of Campos noted numerous risks posed by the P50 platform, operated by PetroRio. According to reports, the platform’s conditions are due to a lack of maintenance and investment.
The oil company Petrobras stated that it is aware of the request made by Sindipetro-NF, which claims there is an operational risk if the platform in the Basin of Campos remains in operation. Furthermore, Petrobras stated that all information is being addressed in conjunction with the new operator of the Albacora field (PetroRio).

Risks of Operating the P50 Platform in the Basin of Campos
The request for the closure of the platform in the Basin of Campos also takes into account the risks it poses to the environment and the onboard population, as some oil workers claim that the platform has leaks in the oily water discharge line, which can contaminate the air and surfaces with harmful waste. In addition, there are also precarious structural conditions for the oil workers.
Valnísio Hoffmann, general coordinator of Sindipetro in ES, states that: “the process of selling Albacora Leste was very accelerated in this final stage, and there was great pressure from PetroRio on managers and regulatory agencies to obtain the necessary clearances and licenses. There are reports that several pending issues were not addressed and even so, the platform was handed over to the company.”
Moreover, the oil workers claim that the request for the disembarkation of the P50 platform in the Basin of Campos one day before the inauguration of the new Petrobras president Jean Paul Prates generated general strangeness. For them, it is evident that the buyer was concerned that the sale of the platform would be re-evaluated by the new administration.
