The company successfully completed the drilling phase without environmental or operational incidents in the Santos Basin. Karoon Energy is preparing to begin oil production at the Patola Field this first quarter of the year.
The Australian oil and gas operator Karoon Energy is increasingly investing in the advancement of its exploration projects in the Brazilian sector. The company’s expectation is to begin drilling and oil production at the Patola Field, located in the Santos Basin, still in the first quarter of 2023. The installation of wells and Christmas trees has already been completed on both wells, making way for fuel production.
Karoon Energy Plans to Begin Oil Production at the Patola Field Wells This First Quarter of 2023
Advancing further in its exploration and fuel production project in the Santos Basin region in 2023, Karoon Energy is preparing for another step in the campaign.
Following the successful completion of well drilling in the Patola Field area, the company is mobilizing to begin oil production at the asset by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

The Noble Developer drilling rig has completed all drilling and completion activities in the field, thus making way for the next steps in the asset exploration campaign.
Additionally, the installation of wells and Christmas trees in the two development wells at the Patola Field has recently been completed, without operational or environmental issues in the process.
Thus, Karoon Energy can redirect its investments to the next phase of the oil production project at the site.
To do this, it will need to carry out some remaining subsea infrastructure installations in the Santos Basin area, flowlines, umbilicals, and other necessary pipelines to connect the wells to the FPSO Cidade de Itajaí.
The company’s drilling rig is being moved to the BAN-1 well site to undergo a re-opening intervention of a lower zone of the well, which had previously been in production.
This will be the fourth intervention at the Patola Field, marking the completion of this phase by Karoon Energy, which will now focus on all the necessary infrastructure for the start of fuel production.
Company Celebrates Success in the Santos Basin Project and Prepares for New Oil Well Drilling at the Neon Field
The company Karoon Energy celebrated the success of operations conducted in the Santos Basin in recent months, especially concerning the minimization of environmental issues in operations.
It also highlights that the Patola Field is on the right track to begin oil production during the first quarter of 2023, with few issues expected along the way.
The results of these operations are the result of a collective effort from the entire technical and operational team of the oil and gas company.
After concluding operations at the Patola Field in the Santos Basin, Karoon Energy will move the Noble Developer rig to the Neon Field, where the vessel will drill the first control well in the area.
The company is seeking all necessary authorizations from local authorities to proceed with the project.
“The receipt of final environmental approvals for drilling Neon was impacted by the recent change in federal administration in Brazil. Consequently, we will conduct the final planned intervention at the Baúna field, at the BAN-1 well, before moving on to Neon,” said Karoon’s CEO, Julian Fowles.
