Gasoline Price Closes First Half of July at R$ 6.13. Ethanol Also Drops and Closes Period with Average of R$4.28.
After sharp increases in fuel prices charged by Petrobras, the average price of a liter of gasoline sold at gas stations in Brazil closed the first half of July at R$ 6.79, a price 10.22% cheaper compared to the closing of June. Also in decline, the price of ethanol fell 6.33% compared to the previous month, and closed the period at R$ 5.62, according to data from the Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL).
“After the reduction of the ICMS rate, there was a significant drop in the price of these fuels compared to last month. Not only did we see a reduction in the national average, but also at gas stations in all Brazilian regions, such as the Federal District, where gasoline became 19.68% cheaper for drivers; and in Rio de Janeiro, where the drop reached 13.39% for ethanol, according to the IPTL,” highlights Douglas Pina, General Director of Mainstream at Edenred Brazil’s Fleet and Mobility Division.
São Paulo Remains the Leader in Cheapest Gasoline in Brazil
In regional terms, the lowest priced gasoline was found at R$ 6.30 at gas stations in the South, with a drop of 12.38% in price. Meanwhile, the highest average was recorded in the Northeast, with a price of R$ 7.10 and a decrease of 7.92% in price.

The Northeast also showed the highest average for ethanol. The fuel price closed the period at R$ 6.00 in northeastern gas stations, with a drop of 3.54%. The cheapest ethanol was recorded in the Central-West region, at R$ 4.85, representing a reduction of 10.68%, the most significant among the other regions.
In state highlights, São Paulo continues to lead as the state with the cheapest gasoline in the country, selling at R$ 6.13, with a decrease of 12.34%. The highest average for this fuel was recorded in Piauí, at R$ 7.41, although it is 8.17% cheaper.
Ethanol with the Lowest Average Price in All of Brazil Reaches R$ 4.28 at Pumps
The ethanol with the lowest average price in all of Brazil was also found at gas stations in São Paulo, at R$ 4.28, with a reduction of 8.24% in price. Pará sold this fuel at the highest average price in the country, at R$ 6.65, with a decrease of 2.28% compared to June. “In this first half closing, among all states, ethanol was the most advantageous option for refueling only for drivers in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, and Goiás,” concludes Pina.
