Free Online French Courses (E-Learning) With Live Classes via Google Meet Offered by the Federal Institute; Selection by Electronic Lottery, Ensuring Equality for All Brazilians
Learning a new language can open doors to the job market, broaden cultural horizons, and even provide academic opportunities. With this in mind, the Federal Institute of Southern Minas (IFSULDEMINAS) launched the Notice No. 244/2025, which offers free spots for the courses of Basic French I and II in the distance learning (online – EAD) format.
This initiative is part of the Initial and Continuing Education program (FIC) and aims to provide quality training for those seeking to expand their knowledge.
Online Courses With Live Classes and Valid Certificate
The highlight of the notice is that the courses are fully online, but with synchronous classes twice a week, transmitted via Google Meet.

This means that students will have direct contact with teachers and peers in real-time, facilitating the exchange of experiences.
The total workload is 42 hours, distributed among live meetings, assessment activities, and participation in forums and practical exercises. To ensure the certificate, it is necessary to achieve at least 60% of satisfactory performance.
Free Online (E-learning) French Courses Offered by the Federal Institute
The notice provides 20 spots per class, distributed as follows:
- Basic French I – classes on Mondays and Fridays, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
- Basic French II – classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
The classes will start in September 2025 and continue until January 2026, with possible calendar adjustments for administrative reasons.
Selection Process by Electronic Lottery
The selection will be done democratically: registered candidates will participate in an electronic lottery.
The list of selected candidates will be published on the official website of IFSULDEMINAS on September 17, 2025.
Those who are not selected will have the chance to join the waiting list, potentially being called in case of withdrawals.
Who Can Enroll
To compete for a spot, candidates must be at least 16 years old and have completed elementary education. Additionally, they need to have a CPF or National Identification Card, a valid email, and access to a computer with internet, audio, and video to follow along with the live classes.
It is important to remember that those already enrolled in the programs New Paths or Capacita Sul de Minas cannot enroll in this notice.
In the case of Basic French II, it is mandatory to present a certificate of completion for the course Basic French I. Without this document, the candidate will be automatically disqualified.

Enrollment is free and must be conducted exclusively online, from September 2 to 16, 2025, via the official electronic form.
The course is fully funded by IFSULDEMINAS, and the certificates issued at the end will have national validity, reinforcing the academic and professional weight of the training.
According to the acting rector, Luiz Carlos Dias da Rocha, the initiative “strengthens the mission of the institute to democratize access to knowledge and provide training opportunities beyond the physical boundaries of the campus.”
