The Biomar Vessel Delivered in India Reinforces the Company’s Commitment to Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in Short-Distance Navigation in Europe.
A AtoB@C Shipping, a Swedish subsidiary of the Finnish company ESL Shipping, received its seventh new plug-in hybrid vessel. The general cargo vessel, named Biomar, has a deadweight tonnage of 5,400 and was delivered in India on June 16, 2025. A Milestone in the Journey Toward a Sustainable Fleet
The Biomar ship is the seventh in a series ordered by the company. Its arrival strengthens AtoB@C Shipping’s fleet, which continues to modernize. The previous delivery, of the sixth ship in the series, the Terramar, occurred in mid-March 2025, also in Goa, India.
Commitment to a Greener Future in Shipping
The company celebrates each new addition as a step forward toward its sustainability goals. “We are excited to welcome Biomar to our fleet. With each new vessel, we are building a greener future for short-distance shipping in Europe,” commented Frida Rowland, Commercial Director of AtoB@C Shipping.

The Progress of the Construction of the Twelve Vessels
AtoB@C Shipping has ordered a total of twelve plug-in hybrid vessels from the Indian shipyard Chowgule & Company. As the seventh vessel is delivered, production continues. The construction of the last ship in the series, the Luxomar, began on June 17 with a steel cutting ceremony. Additionally, the eighth vessel, Ventumar, was launched on May 30 and is currently undergoing outfitting, with delivery expected in the third quarter of 2025. Deliveries will occur quarterly until the fall of 2026.
Hybrid Technology for Zero-Emission Port Operations
All twelve vessels in the ice class 1A series are equipped with batteries and shore power connections. This advanced technology allows each hybrid vessel to make port visits without generating emissions and without producing noise, contributing to cleaner and quieter port operations.
