The Minister of Economy of Argentina emphasizes that the oil industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country and reinforces the importance of valuing Argentine “black gold” for the Argentine people.
The Minister of Economy of Argentina, Sergio Massa, issued a warning to the oil companies in the country regarding fuel supply at gas stations. He stated that this issue needs to be resolved by midnight on Tuesday, the 31st.
Otherwise, from Wednesday onward, companies will not be able to load export ships. Massa asserted that Argentine oil is for Argentines and that he will defend domestic supply and the consumption of Argentines.
But why is Argentina breaking records in oil production?
During a press conference, Sergio Massa also highlighted that Argentina’s oil sector is breaking production records. After the first round of elections, some companies decided to stockpile their production, considering a possible devaluation of the Argentine peso. The minister explained that these companies expected a price increase of between 20% and 40%, which is why they opted to store the production.

He also mentioned that the Argentine oil sector is one of the fastest growing in the world. Additionally, it has a special exchange rate, tax cuts, and frozen prices.
However, one day after the elections, the prices of gasoline and diesel at the state-owned YPF gas stations increased by 3%, despite a price freeze agreement between the oil companies and the government. This increase resulted in a fuel shortage in the interior of the country, especially in the north.
Argentine Oil Should Be Used to Benefit the Country’s Population, According to Massa
In light of this situation, Minister Sergio Massa reinforced his commitment to defend domestic supply and the consumption of Argentines. He emphasized that Argentine oil should be used to benefit the population of the country. Moreover, he highlighted that the oil sector is continuously growing and that measures must be taken to ensure the stability of fuel supply.
In this context, it is essential that oil companies act responsibly and meet the deadlines established by the government to resolve the supply at gas stations. Oil export is important, but it cannot harm domestic supply and the consumption of Argentines.
- Vital Role of the Oil Sector:
- Economic growth and job creation.

In addition to generating jobs and boosting economic growth, it contributes to reducing dependence on fuel imports. Therefore, it is essential that there is cooperation between oil companies and the government to ensure the stability of fuel supply and the sustainable development of the sector.
