The Investments of the Ministry of Infrastructure in Aviation
The goal is to increase connectivity and expand flights from all 27 states of the national territory. Marcelo Sampaio, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, states that the federal government is implementing a significant transformation in the aviation sector, improving infrastructure, enhancing the business environment, and reducing bureaucracy in the process, in an effort to broaden the presence of this model in the interior of Brazil.
The federal government aims to have 200 cities offering regular flights by 2025. According to data from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), there were 128 regular airports in Brazil in 2019. Starting in 2020, the pandemic affected the availability of flights. Due to restrictions and a decline in demand, services are currently available in only 96 locations. With the decrease in passenger flow, the Ministry of Infrastructure seeks to accelerate the renovation and expansion works being carried out at various airports.

The Amazon region, with many remote municipalities and lacking road connections, is a priority. Since 2019, around R$ 200 million has been allocated for engineering and equipment purchases at 25 airports in Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, and Pará.
With tenders approved by the federal government in 2020, the expectation is to build a new passenger terminal at Oiapoque Airport (AP), in addition to the renovation and expansion of Barreiras Airport (BA), and the construction of an operational fence and guardhouse at Barreirinhas Airport (MA), the expansion and reconstruction of Patos Airport (PB), the implementation of a new passenger terminal, the expansion of the operational area of Santo Ângelo Airport (RS), and the purchase of equipment at Cascavel Airport (PR).
