Gaucho Oil is Elected the Best in the Southern Hemisphere at International Awards
The gaucho oil Potenza Intenso, produced at Fazenda Serra dos Tapes, in Canguçu, Rio Grande do Sul, has won the title of best oil in the Southern Hemisphere at the Mario Solinas Quality Award 2025 – Southern Hemisphere Edition, held by the International Olive Council (COI). The award, considered the highest global recognition in the extra virgin olive oils sector, took place on September 9 and 10 in San Juan, Argentina.
The competition highlighted only four oils of excellence, evaluated by an international jury consisting of specialists recognized by the COI.
Potenza Intenso was the grand winner in the “Medium Green” category, one of the most balanced and appreciated styles among extra virgin olive oils.

Saudi Arabia bought nearly 397,000 tons of Brazilian chicken, but now wants to create a poultry empire in the desert: the self-sufficiency plan targets local production, threatens shipments from BRF, JBS, and Seara, and raises an alert for Brazil in the halal market until 2030.

Rio Grande do Sul Establishes Itself as a Reference in Olive Oil Production
The award reinforces the role of Rio Grande do Sul as a leader in the national production of high-quality olive oil.
The region, known for its favorable climate and fertile soils, has increasingly stood out on the international scene by combining rural tradition and modern technology.
Potenza Intenso is produced with strict quality control from the harvest of the olives to the cold pressing, ensuring freshness and purity. This attention to detail allows the product to meet the standards required to compete with major international brands.
“Medium Green”: Worldwide Recognized Balance and Intensity
The Medium Green category, in which the gaucho oil was awarded, is recognized for representing oils with a balanced aromatic profile, combining notes of fresh herbs, almonds, and green fruits.
These sensory attributes were critical in impressing the jury of the Mario Solinas Quality Award, which evaluates criteria such as flavor, aroma, harmony, and complexity.
The result solidifies Potenza Intenso as a product of excellence and reaffirms Brazil as an emerging competitor in the international olive oil market.

Competition Brings Together the Best Oils of the Southern Hemisphere
The 2025 edition of the Mario Solinas Quality Award included 30 samples of extra virgin olive oils from five countries: Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, and South Africa.
The event, organized by the COI — an institution based in Madrid and established in 1959 — aims to highlight the production of oils that stand out for their sensory quality and innovation in production.
In addition to the winning gaucho oil in the Medium Green category, the podium also included La Agrícola SA (Mendoza, Argentina) in the “Robust Green” category, Ernesto Singer (Montevideo, Uruguay) in “Delicate Green,” and Agroliva (Buenos Aires, Argentina) in “Ripe.”
The Tradition of Excellence of Potenza Oil
This is not the first time Fazenda Serra dos Tapes has been recognized internationally. In 2023, the location also won the Mario Solinas Quality Award with the oil Potenza Frutado, which ranked among the best in the world.
The repeated success reinforces the consistency and dedication of the gaucho team in producing premium oils.
The Potenza brand demonstrates that it is possible to combine Brazilian origin, sustainability, and international quality, paving the way for gaucho oil to win over discerning palates across various continents.
A Milestone for Brazilian Olive Oil
The achievement of the international award marks a historical milestone for the olive oil sector in Brazil.
With the recognition of Potenza Intenso, the country establishes itself as a producer of high-quality olive oil, increasing its presence in a market previously dominated by Mediterranean countries.
Rio Grande do Sul, with its agricultural tradition and favorable climate, has shown that it can produce competitive and sophisticated oils like the Medium Green Potenza Intenso, a symbol of innovation and gaucho excellence.
