With Investments Exceeding R$ 7 Million, Balneário Camboriú Advances in Health Infrastructure to Serve Children, Adolescents, and the Community in General with the Construction of a New CAPSi and UBS.
The city of Balneário Camboriú, in Santa Catarina, is taking an important step in expanding its public health network with the construction of the first Child and Adolescent Psychosocial Care Center (CAPSi) and a new Basic Health Unit (UBS). Both projects are funded by the New Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC) from the Federal Government and represent an investment of over R$ 7 million.
Construction of the New CAPSi
Focused on child and adolescent mental health, the CAPSi is being built on Angelina Street, in the Bairro dos Municípios, next to CAIC Ayrton Senna. The UBS will be constructed in the São Judas Tadeu neighborhood, on Maria Mansoto Street, alongside the new Municipal Pharmacy headquarters.
With approximately 600 m² of built area, the future CAPSi will offer specialized care for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and psychological disorders.

While an average building in London or New York takes three years to be completed, in China a 26-story tower went up in five days with about 100 workers, and the global modular construction market already moves US$ 95 billion per year.

International bridge of R$ 214 million between Brazil and Argentina will be 950 meters long, feature customs complexes, and promises to replace slow ferry with a minutes-long crossing on the border Uruguay River by 2030.

While complete hospitals can take years between foundation, construction, and inauguration, Turkey erected an emergency hospital with 1,008 beds in 45 days at the former Atatürk Airport to tackle the pandemic.

France transformed 100 shipping containers into 24-square-meter student apartments, creating a four-story building in Le Havre with kitchens, bathrooms, large windows, and affordable local student rent.
The project is budgeted at over R$ 2 million and has an estimated completion period of one year.
“Balneário Camboriú needs a unit to take care of the mental health of children and adolescents, and now with this achievement of the CAPSi, we will be able to offer that. The construction has already started, and the team is aware of the priority we must have to ensure that the unit becomes operational as soon as possible.”
Currently, care for this population is provided in a decentralized manner, at the Child Care Center (PAI) and at CAPS II, which is aimed at adults.
According to Health Secretary Aline Leal, the new facility will expand the reach and quality of services:
“This project represents a major advancement in health for Balneário Camboriú, as it will be the city’s first CAPS focused on this demographic. This will ensure that the children and adolescents in our municipality receive support and care when they need it the most.”
“We have a very high demand, and the CAPSi, in addition to providing the best care for the patient, will also help decrease the waiting list.”
New UBS and Municipal Pharmacy Enhance Primary Care
Another area of expansion is the construction of a new UBS in the São Judas Tadeu neighborhood, with a total area of 736.39 m² and an investment of over R$ 5 million, also through Novo PAC.
The structure will be capable of performing approximately 400 consultations per day, according to projections from the Health Department.
On the same site, the new headquarters of the Municipal Pharmacy will be implemented, with 205.92 m², designed to serve an average of 170 people daily.
Secretary Aline Leal explains the need for the new UBS:
“The unit that currently exists in the neighborhood operates in a rented space and can no longer accommodate the demand. Therefore, the construction of a new building will not only provide better conditions for patient care but will also result in savings for public finances.”
Expanding the health network reflects a commitment to the population.
With the implementation of the CAPSi and the new UBS, Balneário Camboriú reaffirms its commitment to improving health services by investing in structure, accessibility, and quality care for the population.
The projects signal significant progress in the consolidation of integrated and humanized public policies, especially for more vulnerable groups such as children and adolescents.
