Contributing to Sustainability, BNDES Plans to Finance R$ 1.62 Billion for the Installation of Ten Wind Power Plants in Pernambuco and Piauí, with Expected Dates to Operate Next Year
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced this Thursday (15) that it will support the installation of ten wind power plants that will have an installed capacity of 409.20 MW in Piauí and Pernambuco. The project will generate enough sustainable energy to supply 800 thousand households and is expected to create over a thousand new jobs.

The plants will generate over a thousand new job vacancies, mainly for the local population. The new BNDES financings are part of the Wind Complexes Ventos do Piauí II and III, in the municipalities of Betânia, Curral Novo, and Paulistana in Piauí, and Araripina and Ouricuri in Pernambuco.
The financing from BNDES will be granted to ten special purpose companies (SPEs) belonging to VTRM Energia Participações. The financed amount will be R$ 1.62 billion, and it is expected that the ten wind power plants will start operating next year.

Each of the plants will connect to the National Interconnected System (SIN) through a transmission line to the Curral Novo substation of Piauí II, which is already in operation.
BNDES Energy Superintendent Comments
For Carla Primavera, BNDES Energy Superintendent, the support for the expansion of renewable energies in Brazil, such as wind energy, continues to be a good strategy for the bank, allowing greater development of the free energy market and enabling investors in renewable assets to establish commercial partnerships with consumers linked to the ESG agenda.
The resources financed in Pernambuco and Piauí by BNDES will first be used to purchase wind turbines in Brazil. Thus, the bank stimulates the development of the supplier chain for this equipment in the country. The remaining expenses of the project involve civil works, medium voltage electrical grid, construction of substations, connection bays, and transmission lines.
72% Expansion of Installed Capacity
According to Carlos Guerra, CFO of Votorantim Energia, the wind energy complexes Ventos do Piauí II and III represent a 72% expansion of the company’s installed capacity in the region.
He stated that alongside the Ventos do Araripe III and Ventos do Piauí I parks, already in operation, the projects will be part of the largest cluster of wind generation in the country, contributing to the development of the local economy by promoting jobs and income in the municipalities where the company is located.
BNDES highlights that more than 600 wind power parks have been installed in Brazil, with a total of 15.4 GW of installed capacity. Thus, the energy generated by strong winds has become the second most relevant source in Brazil’s electrical matrix.
