On Monday (17), the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho (Republicans), attended the launch of the first project focused on the production of sustainable fuel for aviation.
The ceremony took place at the Itaipu Technological Park, in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. The initiative, according to the head of the department, aims to promote the decarbonization of the air sector through clean and renewable fuels.
Investment and Production of the Fuel
The project will receive an investment of 1.8 million euros from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ).
The Production Unit of Renewable Hydrocarbons, located at the Itaipu Binacional facilities, will produce 6kg/day of bio-syncrude.

This is a mixture of hydrocarbons synthesized from biogas and green hydrogen, intended for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
Energy Transition and Sustainability
According to the minister, these investments in sustainable technologies directly reflect the efforts of the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to promote energy transition.
According to him, the emphasis on new energy sources being promoted by the Brazilian government is essential for the goals pursued by Brazil in international agreements, where the country has committed to collaborating with the mitigation of the effects of global climate change.
“With these projects, the Brazilian government reinforces its commitment to sustainability and economic development, preparing the country for a greener and more innovative future,” he said.
Technical Visit to the Airport of Foz do Iguaçu
Before the launch, Minister Costa Filho made a technical visit to the airport of Foz do Iguaçu. At the time, he was accompanied by the National Secretary of Aviation, Tomé Franca, and the president of Infraero, Rogério Barzellay.
Currently, the site is undergoing construction. Among them, there are improvements in runway safety areas, renovations and expansions of the passenger terminal, and construction of cargo terminals.
According to information from the “G1” portal, the airport’s concessionaire, CCR, is investing R$ 270 million in improvements for passengers.
According to the concessionaire, these interventions not only provide more comfort and convenience for tourists but also have a significant impact on the local economy, generating approximately 250 direct jobs during the construction phase.
