The Chinese giant BYD has just taken another strategic step to consolidate its dominance in the global electrified vehicle market. On February 4th, the automaker officially presented the first images and technical details of the Song Ultra EV, a mid-sized electric crossover that promises to be the new “flagship” of performance within the Song family.

The announcement, made through official teasers, positions the Song Ultra EV as the first electric SUV in the B segment within the prestigious Dynasty Series, which groups iconic models such as the Han, Tang, and Yuan. The launch comes at a transition moment for the brand, which recently removed the Song Plus from the Chinese domestic market to pave the way for this new generation of more technological and powerful vehicles.

The design of the Song Ultra EV is a direct evolution of the brand’s visual identity. It adopts the “Loong Face” language, characterized by fluid lines and a more aggressive and sporty front end. While it shares visual DNA with the Song L DM-i (hybrid version), the Ultra EV stands out with its unique bumper and refined aerodynamics.

One of the major technological highlights is the optional presence of a LiDAR sensor installed on the roof. This component is essential for advanced autonomous driving systems, allowing the vehicle to map the environment with millimeter precision in real-time, dramatically increasing safety on highways and complex urban environments.

Performance That Defies The Category

Unlike other mid-sized SUVs aimed solely at family comfort, the Song Ultra EV delivers breath-taking numbers. The model will be offered in two powertrain variants:

Entry Version: Equipped with a 239 kW motor, delivering 320 hp.
Performance Version: With an impressive 270 kW, generating 362 hp.

With this configuration, the crossover can reach a top speed of 210 km/h, a remarkable milestone for electric vehicles in this category. To sustain this performance, BYD uses its award-winning Blade Battery (LFP). Although the total kWh capacity has not yet been detailed, the battery architecture ensures superior thermal management and greater impact resistance.

Dimensions And Interior Space

The Song Ultra EV is not only powerful; it is robust. With a 4,850 mm length and a 2,840 mm wheelbase, the model offers generous interior space, surpassing its predecessors, such as the Song Pro. This gain in dimensions positions the car as an ideal option for those looking for a balance between the luxury of a sedan and the versatility of an SUV. Additionally, the concealed door handles and the clean side design enhance the premium aspect of the vehicle.

The Future In Brazil?

Although the initial launch is focused on the Asian market, BYD’s history suggests that the Song Ultra EV is a strong candidate for the Brazilian market in the near future. With the Camaçari (BA) factory coming online, the arrival of high-performance models like the Ultra could elevate the brand’s competitiveness against luxury European SUVs.
