Global Sustainability Seal Boosts Clean Production
The industrial complex of BYD Auto in Camaçari, Bahia, achieved the I-REC international certification on September 17, 2025.
The seal certifies the exclusive use of renewable energy.
This recognition positions the company as a reference in sustainability and reinforces its commitment to the energy transition.
Certification Ensures Traceability of Energy Used
The achievement of the I-REC seal confirms that 100% of the electricity consumed by the factory comes from wind sources.
This global system is audited in Brazil by the Totum Institute in São Paulo.
It guarantees the traceability of energy and certifies its renewable origin.
With this measure, BYD avoided the emission of approximately 470 tons of CO₂ between October 2024 and August 2025.
This result corresponds to the planting of approximately 3,300 trees.
Sustainable Strategy Strengthens Automotive Sector
According to the president of BYD Auto in Brazil, Tyler Li, the initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability.
He stated that the company’s production process is already fully aligned with low-carbon practices.
Thus, the certification becomes a competitive advantage for BYD in the market for hybrid and electric vehicles.
The brand solidifies its position as a pioneer in clean production in the country.

Certification Process Involved Rigorous Energy Analysis
To obtain the certificate, BYD conducted a detailed mapping of the energy consumption of the Camaçari industrial complex.
Then, the company selected a supplier capable of guaranteeing the renewable origin of the electricity.
In this way, the company ensures that all energy consumed at the unit is traceable and auditable.
This step consolidates its leadership position in environmental practices in the Brazilian industrial sector.
BYD Advances Expansion in Brazil with Focus on Sustainability
Present in Brazil for over ten years, BYD already has factories in Campinas (SP) and Manaus (AM). Additionally, in 2024, it began the construction of the Camaçari complex, considered the largest project of the company outside Asia.
At the same time, the company has already distinguished itself in mobility projects, such as the monorail of Line 17-Gold in São Paulo. Also in 2024, BYD achieved the 10th position in the national ranking of passenger car sales.
As a result, seven out of ten electric vehicles sold in the country were from the brand.
Likewise, for every four hybrids sold, one belonged to the company.
Thus, the I-REC certification adds to the company’s innovation trajectory.
Therefore, it strengthens the brand’s positioning as a leader in the energy transition and sustainable mobility in Brazil.
