BYD Unveils Tang L Electric SUV with Seven Seats and Over 1,100 HP at Competitive Price in China.
The Chinese automaker BYD has revealed to the world the Tang L, a new seven-seat electric SUV that promises to raise the standard of the category. With fully electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, the model is already being sold in China with prices ranging from 229,800 to 289,800 yuan — equivalent to roughly R$ 183 thousand to R$ 239 thousand in direct conversion, excluding taxes. The novelty has drawn attention for combining generous interior space, extreme power, and advanced technological features. The launch places BYD in a prominent position in the segment of electric cars in Brazil and worldwide, competing directly with more expensive models by offering a robust package at a market value similar to that of midsize SUVs, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross.
Bold Design with Dragon Face Signature
On the outside, the BYD Tang L showcases the brand’s new visual language, Dragon Face. The front features sleek and aggressive headlights, accompanied by an LED strip that runs across the entire front end. The silver grille and aerodynamic details give it a modern and imposing appearance.
The rear maintains a cleaner style, with LED taillights connected by a horizontal strip. The idea is to combine urban presence with sophistication, maintaining a visual profile aligned with the new generation of global electric vehicles.

Sales boom: Automotive sector enters an accelerated pace in 2026 after new car sales reached the best result since 2013 and boosted automakers in Brazil.
In terms of dimensions, the Tang L is impressive: it measures 5.04 meters in length, 1.99 m in width, 1.76 m in height, and 2.95 m in wheelbase. These numbers translate to a spacious interior, ideal for large families or users who value comfort in all rows.
Futuristic Interior with Digital Dashboard and Augmented Reality
Inside, the seven-seat electric SUV impresses with its 15.6-inch multimedia center, which can be rotated horizontally or vertically. Additionally, there is a digital instrument panel with augmented reality, facilitating the reading of information while driving.
The God’s Eye B ADAS driving assistance system is also part of the package, offering features such as blind-spot alert, emergency automatic braking, lane-keeping assistance, among others. All this is complemented by premium finishes, comfortable seats, and intelligent internal layout.
Extreme Power and Sporty Acceleration Are Highlights of BYD’s New SUV

The BYD Tang L hits the market with two fully electric configurations. In the rear-wheel drive version, the model delivers 788 HP and reaches 30,511 RPM — a figure the manufacturer claims is a global record among production vehicles.
The more powerful version adds a front motor of 312 HP, totaling 1,101 HP and offering all-wheel drive. With this configuration, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, placing it alongside high-performance sports models.
Even with this power, the model offers range of up to 670 km in the rear-wheel drive version. The all-wheel drive version reaches up to 600 km, and with the additional drone equipment, the range is around 560 km, always following the CLTC standard.
Two Hybrid Options with Extended Range
In addition to the electric versions, the plug-in hybrid Tang L SUV has two plug-in hybrid configurations. The first combines a 1.5 turbo engine with 156 HP with an electric motor of 271 HP, resulting in an efficient rear-wheel drive system.
The second hybrid option adds another electric motor at the front, ensuring all-wheel drive. This configuration offers up to 215 km of range only in electric mode and can reach up to 1,270 km in combined mode, according to the CLTC cycle.
Both hybrid variants also utilize BYD’s Super e-Platform, which allows for reduced charging time. The structure supports fast charging systems, enabling a significant portion of the battery to be recovered in approximately five minutes, depending on the charger used.
Cutting-Edge Automotive Technology in the SUV Segment
The launch of the BYD Tang L reinforces the Chinese automaker’s advancement in the automotive technology sector, highlighting the integrated infotainment system, smartphone connectivity, voice recognition, remote software updates (OTA), and app commands.
The digital dashboard, combined with intelligent driving control, provides the driver with a safer and more comfortable experience without sacrificing modern features. The brand’s proposal is to democratize high technology from premium cars, offering these features at prices below those of major European competitors.
Competitive Pricing and Potential Arrival of Electric Cars in Brazil
Even with specifications that rival luxury brands, the plug-in hybrid SUV BYD Tang L will be sold at prices well below the average for similar models. In direct currency exchange, the model starts at R$ 183 thousand, placing it in the same range as midsize SUVs sold in Brazil.
If launched here with incentives and exemptions, the SUV could become one of the most attractive options in the segment. BYD is already operating in the country with models such as the Dolphin and the Song Plus, and the Tang L could be another step toward consolidating the brand in the Brazilian market.
Although there is still no official confirmation, the arrival of the BYD Tang L in Brazil is considered likely, given the brand’s expansion strategy in the national territory. The model fits the profile of consumers who seek space, power, and energy efficiency, while also representing an advancement in the offering of electric cars in Brazil with good cost-effectiveness.
BYD is already investing in local factories and plans to expand its dealership network, which could facilitate the adaptation of the Tang L plug-in hybrid SUV to the Brazilian market, including versions adapted for local driving.
