Leopard 5, New Plug-In Hybrid Off-Road SUV Revealed by BYD’s Fang Cheng Baoda Subbrand Has 1,200 km of Range.
BYD makes a bold leap with the launch of the Leopard 5, a plug-in hybrid SUV aimed at the premium market, boasting impressive 1,200 km of range. This new offering comes from the Fang Cheng Bao subbrand and signals the company’s intent to expand its reach in the electrified vehicle segment.
An Innovative Subbrand: Fang Cheng Bao
BYD is no stranger to innovation. The company, through Fang Cheng Bao, has brought to the forefront the Leopard 5, an SUV with an off-road footprint, initially priced at 400,000 yuan in China. This debut is just the beginning, as the subbrand plans to expand its lineup with additions like the Leopard 3 and Leopard 8.
The Fang Cheng Bao, by the way, is strategically positioned between Denza and YangWang, in terms of pricing, further solidifying its presence in the market.

Chevrolet Tornado Van 2026 emerges as a compact van cheaper than many popular cars in Brazil, with a 1.5 engine, 6-speed manual transmission, 650 kg load capacity, 3.3 m³ of usable space, and fuel consumption of up to 18.1 km/l for about R$ 87,000 in tax-free conversion; an urban utility vehicle that Brazilians don’t have, but Mexico does.

Toyota Hilux becomes a ‘cargo truck’: automaker declares a new era for the pickup with greater capacity, reinforced chassis, 2.8 turbodiesel engine, raised suspension, 1,525 kg load capacity, and targets Ford Ranger Super Duty, which tows an impressive 4,500 kg.
Robust Design and Features of the Leopard 5
The robustness of the Leopard 5 becomes evident through its square design. The SUV measures 4.89 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.80 meters, offering a strong presence reminiscent of heavyweights like the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender.
On the outside, the Leopard 5 stands out with:
- Large Headlights
- BFGoodrich 265/55 R18 AT Tires
- D-Shape Taillights
- Spare Tire Mounted on the Rear Door

However, it’s the interior that truly catches the eye. According to the manufacturer, customers will be treated to:
- A Wide Central Display
- A Sporty Steering Wheel
- A Retractable Gear Selector
- Drink Holders
- Two Wireless Charging Areas
- Facial Recognition System Next to the Driver
And we can’t forget the vehicle’s off-road capability, which features a Disus-P suspension system, with impressive approach and departure angles.
1,200 Km of Range
The power of the Leopard 5 comes from its DMO system, integrating a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors. This translates to a combined power output of 680 hp.
The highlight is the battery, which in purely electric mode allows for a range of up to 125 km, but when combined with the combustion engine, the range jumps to an impressive 1,200 km.
In an intriguing note, according to CarNewsChina, the bottom of a concept car presented by Fang Cheng Bao had an inscription that can be translated as “Sailing Together,” suggesting the brand’s ambitions to explore markets beyond China. However, the possibility of sales in the Brazilian market has not been officially confirmed by the manufacturer.
With the launch of the Leopard 5, BYD reinforces its position in the plug-in hybrid SUV market and creates anticipation for future releases.
