BYD Released New Images of Its Low-Cost Electric Car. The BYD Seagull May Arrive in Brazil as One of the Cheapest on the Market, but it will be launched first in China.
After consolidating its activities in the luxury segments, Chinese BYD is preparing to launch its low-cost electric car. While preparing for the arrival of the Dolphin in the national territory, which promises prices lower than R$ 250,000, BYD launched the Seagull in its country of origin. The new entry model from the automaker may hit the market for around R$ 59,000.
BYD Seagull Could Become One of the Cheapest Electric Cars in Brazil
The new BYD Seagull comes with several versions with prices ranging from 80,000 to 100,000 yuan in China, which in direct conversion is around R$ 59,000 to R$ 73,000, respectively.
To give you an idea, the Renault Kwid E-Tech starts at 55,000 yuan in China, which is R$ 41,000. Thus, if the Chinese automaker’s low-cost electric car comes to Brazil, the expectation is that it will be around R$ 170,000, seeing that the electric Kwid is around R$ 150,000 here.

Being quite compact, the BYD Seagull measures 3.78 m in length, 1.54 m in height, and 1.71 m in width, with a wheelbase of 2.5 meters. Compared to the cheapest model in Brazil, the low-cost electric car is 10 cm longer than a Renault Kwid E-Tech, 7 cm taller, and 14 cm wider. When compared to the Citroën C3, which will have an electric version, it is 20 cm shorter, 4 cm lower, and 2 cm narrower.
New Low-Cost Electric Car from Chinese BYD Features Aggressive Design
The mechanical part of the BYD Seagull will consist of a TX180XSH permanent magnet electric motor with 75 horsepower. That’s 10 horsepower more than the Renault model, 13 extra hp compared to the JAC E-JS1, and an advantage of 18 horsepower over the Citroën model that will receive the electric version.
The multinational did not mention the model’s range, but models from the Chinese company usually have great numbers in this regard.
Visually, the low-cost electric car is very modern. The front features slim LED headlights with a trapezoidal front grille, which gives it a more aggressive style. On the sides, what stands out, along with the strong crease on the doors and the irregular rear window, is the high beltline. Black wheel arches attempt to impart SUV robustness to the subcompact.
The rear is the biggest connection point of the Seagull with other BYD models. High connected taillights merge with the rear glass, which also features a large spoiler. The brand name, Build Your Dreams (BYD), is written beneath the brake light. The automaker has not yet revealed images of the interior of the model.
BYD Registers New SUV in Brazil
BYD Brazil previewed a new novelty ahead of time last month. The Chinese company registered an unprecedented SUV of apparently medium size that will be part of the new Ocean model lineup. The registered vehicle has a similar size to the Song Pro, which is not sold here.
Additionally, the basic shape of the body is also similar to the mentioned model. In China, the Song Pro is positioned below the Song Plus and measures 4.65 m in length, 1.86 m in width, and 1.70 m in height.
