Britain Tests Robot Dogs to Disarm Bombs, Enhancing Security in Operations and Protecting Military Personnel from Risks
Britain has taken an important step in improving military security with the use of a robot dog to disarm bombs.
The recent test, conducted by the UK Ministry of Defence, demonstrated the effectiveness of these machines in dangerous missions.
The aim is to enhance security in operations and protect personnel during the delicate task of bomb disposal, significantly reducing the risk of accidents.

Robot Dog on the Battlefield
The test was conducted by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and lasted four days.
During the experiment, the robots were tasked with performing complex duties, such as autonomously opening doors, navigating stairs, and identifying and disarming improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The final mission of the robots was to fire disruptors at the IEDs, safely neutralizing the threats.
Maria Eagle, Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, emphasized the importance of this technology. “We are committed to protecting the military personnel who keep our nation safe. By combining advanced robotics with specialized knowledge, we ensure that our best bomb disposal professionals have the tools to do their job safely and effectively,” she stated.
Technological Advances and Valuable Feedback
The Dstl also took the opportunity to gather feedback from bomb disposal operators, who praised the demonstrated technology.
This feedback will help shape the next phase of robotics development in the UK, focusing on ensuring greater safety and efficiency in operations.
The technology allows robots to perform various tasks remotely, reducing the need to expose operators to risky situations while improving mission accuracy.
Additionally, the use of drones equipped with artificial intelligence for threat monitoring and security control was highlighted as a key point.
The Ministry of Defence believes that this type of innovation can increase the pace of operations, reduce public disruptions, and provide a quicker response to risky situations.
The Role of Industry in Innovation
The test involved collaboration with the company Boston Dynamics, which revealed one of the robot dogs used during the experiment.
The use of commercial and military robots together is a strategy that has been shown to be promising, according to Prof. Andy Bell, Director of Science and Technology at the Dstl.
“This is a clear example of how defense can gain a competitive edge by leveraging technology and blending commercial and military systems. This helps keep the country safe,” he said.
This partnership between industry and government is also seen as a way to contribute to economic growth, creating new jobs and opportunities for innovation.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the tests are part of a broader effort to enhance national security and advance new technologies.
