Company plans to develop mini electric truck with 500 horsepower that promises to compete with big pickups like Ford F-150 and models from RAM.

New electric mini truck is coming to the automotive market and promises to go head-to-head with the most powerful ones. Telo, an assembler of electric vehicles, will develop a smaller model, in the style of Mini Cooper, however with the capacity of a Toyota Tacoma.

Electric mini truck will deliver 500 horsepower

With a design focused on the Mini Cooper footprint, the model, which will compete with large pickup trucks, is compact, as it does not require an engine compartment at the front and a gas tank at the back.

In their place, the batteries are under the floor and the engines, which have two outputs of 380 kW in total, which provides the truck with 500 horsepower. Like other recent electric models, the Telo is also fast, being able to go from 0 to 95,5 km/h in 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 km/h.

With plenty of space, the electric mini truck holds 5 people and still has a 1,5 meter bucket at the rear. If necessary, the seats can be lowered to increase the size and make the model an electric truck for the family.

The electric mini truck, which promises to compete with large pickup trucks, has a range of approximately 565 km and charges between 20% and 80% in 20 minutes.

Electric mini truck should hit the market in 2026

According to information from the website The Verge, the co-founder and CTO of the electric car maker, Forrest North, revealed that the company has a prototype in operation that will be displayed later this month of June to present the capabilities of the model. Then, the electric mini truck will go through the validation and homologation process. There will be around 500 or more units of the first Telo Trucks models.

The delivery estimate is in 2025. The production of the vehicle will take place in the United States and mass production should start in 2026. The model will have a base price of US$ 49.999, which in direct conversion to our currency is around R$ 240 thousand at the current exchange rate. This is the value before possible subsidies, which means that the price may reduce.

Electric mini trucks are gaining popularity

In addition to Telo, which promises to compete with popular pickup trucks, Chinese Keyu Motors has launched a new small electric truck that can transport up to 2 tons. The model developed by the Chinese draws attention for its attractive price and a trick up its sleeve, the addition of a second rear axle, enabling the transport of heavier loads.

According to the automaker, the model does not disappoint and can carry up to 2 tons, in this way, there are 800 kg on the front axle and 1.200 kg on the rear axles. To give you an idea, this number is more than double that reached by the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, which has a maximum capacity of 907 kg.

To achieve this feat, the Chinese electric model with 4×6 traction has 4 kW motors. The electric mini truck's power is not its forte.

Thus, like the Chinese micro cars, the low-cost vehicle only reaches a top speed of 45 km/h. In China, the truck is being sold for an initial price of US$ 4.200, just over R$ 21 at the current price. The big issue for the vehicle is the fees for importing the model from other countries, which may require a greater investment for the costs at the end of the line.
