Cars From Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen And Ford Exempt From IPVA? Understand The Law That Leaves Cars Without IPVA After 20 Years And Which Models Are Included In The Rules.
With the month of January, the new year generally leaves drivers anxious due to the need to pay the Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA). However, in some states of Brazil, cars from Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford that are 20 years old become exempt from the fee. In this article, we will list cars without IPVA starting in 2025. By doing the math, starting next year, models manufactured until 2005 will lose the need to contribute to the fee, being required to pay only for licensing. Therefore, we have separated about 05 cars from Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford sold in Brazil that will no longer be subject to the annual IPVA contribution starting next year.
VW CrossFox
To start the list of cars without IPVA, we have the Fox, one of Volkswagen’s most promising models in Brazil during the last decade.
However, another segment that was growing was that of urban adventurers, which required the brand to seek an immediate response: the CrossFox. With a beefier look and even a spare tire on the trunk, the model launched in 2005 was successful and will soon be one of the cars without IPVA.

Fiat Idea
Still speaking of the last decade, a segment that had not yet been swallowed by SUVs was that of minivans.
In a family segment competed by Honda Fit and Chevrolet Meriva, Fiat responded by launching the Idea. Arriving with bright colors and even a sunroof, it was modern compared to rivals and is also on the list of cars from Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford that will turn 20 in 2025.
Peugeot 206 SW
An almost extinct segment in Brazil is that of station wagons. Although they began to disappear from the market, Peugeot offered an alternative for families, derived from the hatch 206. The SW version, which is one of the cars without IPVA, had a well-resolved trunk and look, even featuring an adventure version called Escapade, with a slightly beefier look.
Toyota “New Hilux”
With the arrival of the year 2005, the seventh generation of the Hilux pickup also arrived. With a design inspired by the midsize sedan Corolla, the model had rounder lines, contrasting with the previous boxy look. This is one of the cars from Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford that will be exempt, delivering a 3.0 turbo diesel engine with 163 horsepower that gave the pickup more breath, running alongside the Corolla, for example.
Toyota SW4
To finish the list of cars without IPVA, we have another model from Toyota that turns 20 in 2025. This is the “new” Toyota SW4, the SUV version of the midsize pickup, which had left the Brazilian market in 2002, returning three years later with a new generation. Equally robust as the pickup, it has a more urban and luxurious appeal while maintaining the same mechanical reliability as always.
How Does The Exemption For Cars Without IPVA Work?
The payment of IPVA depends on the manufacture date of the cars. This means that automobiles that rolled off the production line years ago are completely exempt from paying this debt. However, the age of exempt cars from Toyota, Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford varies by Brazilian state.
The majority of states offer IPVA exemption for cars older than 15 years. In addition to the Federal District, those that meet this requirement are Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Pará, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, and Sergipe.
In the state of Mato Grosso, the production date for cars without IPVA is a bit higher, starting at 18 years. On the other hand, owners of cars in Acre, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo stop contributing to the tax when the car turns 20 years old.
