According to Data from ABVE – Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles, in 2020, sales of hybrid/electric cars saw a significant increase

The year 2020 was the best for the electric and hybrid car sector. According to the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles – ABVE, sales increased by 66.5% compared to 2019. The results were a record in the segment, which had 11,858 vehicles in 2019 and rose to 19,745 last year. In December 2020 alone, 1,949 cars were sold. The total fleet of electric or hybrid vehicles in circulation in Brazil reached 42,269.

Check Some Other News of the Day:

Representation in the Sector:

The National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distributors (Fenabrave) stated that this is the first time the electric vehicle sector has reached 1% of the total automobile and light commercial vehicle market.

Antonio Calcagnotto, Director of Light Vehicles at ABVE and Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Audi do Brasil, said, “We must interpret these numbers in two ways. On one hand, we should celebrate the fact that electrics have reached 1% of the market. It is an important symbolic milestone.”

The director also added, “But it is clear that we are still far from a significant share in the total market. Therefore, we must insist on measures to support electric mobility.”

Sustainability:

The impact of society on the environment and harmful gas emissions has garnered increasing attention, triggering a true revolution in the automotive industry.

Combustion cars have become villains, and some countries are already preparing to restrict their circulation. Starting in 2030, several European countries will limit the use of such cars until they are completely banned.

Adalberto Maluf, president of ABVE, says, “Once again, the electrified vehicles have shown their potential, in stark contrast to the evolution of the entire market. In these times of Covid-19, Brazilian consumers have made a clear bet on non-polluting and sustainable vehicles. They opted to protect their health and the health of society.”
