Couple From Toledo, Paraná, Travels Nearly 3,000 Kilometers in a 1977 Ford Corcel to the Amazon, Facing Heat, Long Distances, and Curiosity Along the Way During Their Nine-Day Journey
A couple from Toledo, Paraná, traveled nearly 3,000 kilometers aboard a 1977 Ford Corcel to deliver the vehicle to a new owner in the Amazon. The journey, which lasted nine days in October, was marked by long distances and the challenge of going without air conditioning. The car held up well during the trip and sparked curiosity wherever they went.
Hilário Zaltron and Janete Niedermeyer decided to continue their trip because they couldn’t find freight transport for the car. Therefore, they chose to drive the vehicle themselves to the destination.
Stops Along the Way
During the journey, the couple maintained an average pace of 600 kilometers per day, with stops in Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Vilhena, and Ariquemes. Additionally, they encountered several people interested in the vehicle.

“We could have sold the car more than ten times. People admired and congratulated us for our courage,” Janete said in an interview with g1.
The Corcel, which has already surpassed 100,000 kilometers, was sold for R$ 20,000 to Hilário’s brother, Vilson Zaltron.
Final Destination in the North
The trip ended in Humaitá, in the Amazon, where the couple delivered the car to the new owner. According to g1, Vilson intends to complete the journey to Manaus as soon as he secures a spot on a ferry.
The river crossing, which takes six to seven days, is necessary because the road conditions are poor.
After the delivery, Hilário and Janete flew back to Toledo, concluding a journey that combined adventure, nostalgia, and mechanical resilience.
