The Reduction of Nubank Ultravioleta Cashback to 1.25% Reignited the Race of Banks for Customers Who Want Cash Back. Learn About Cards That Deliver 1.5% or More, Evaluate Prerequisites, and Choose the One That Fits Your Budget.

Nubank Setback and Domino Effect

The downgrade of Nubank Ultravioleta’s cashback to 1.25% on August 20, 2025, opened the door for competitors that return a larger share of spending to the customer.

While the purple bank now bets on points — 2.2 per dollar — those who prefer to see reais back in their account find alternatives that start at 1.5%.

The change intensified the competition between digital banks and traditional institutions for high-income users willing to consolidate expenses in order to maximize cashback.

Market analysts indicate that the movement also pressures retail networks to create more aggressive promotions to avoid losing traffic.

Even customers satisfied with mileage programs have begun to reevaluate whether the points model truly meets their family’s savings goals.

BTG Pactual Ultrablue Offers Robust Cashback

The Ultrablue returns 1.5% on purchases in Brazil and 1.7% abroad.

The amount is credited in reais on the bill and comes with a partial refund of the IOF.

Holders enjoy unlimited access to VIP lounges, as well as the option to exchange cash for points.

The requirement for consistent banking relationship and the high annual fee demand a high income, but the return may compensate for frequent travelers.

BTG also allows converting cashback into investments, a useful feature for those looking to grow wealth without opening new accounts.

Eligible clients report that the approval process includes a detailed analysis of financial history, which enhances security against fraud.

RecargaPay Mastercard Black Guarantees 1.5% Without Complication

The Black card from RecargaPay offers 1.5% on all transactions when the bill exceeds R$ 5,000.

The cashback is credited within a few days in the app, which also provides bill payments, service recharges, and automatic interest on the balance.

The fintech offers a pre-approved limit of up to R$ 30,000 and includes Black Mastercard benefits, such as travel insurance.

Transactions like withdrawals do not generate cashback; it is advisable to check the regulations to avoid surprises.

Another appealing aspect is the ability to split taxes and essential bills while maintaining the cashback percentage.

Users who use the app to manage daily expenses highlight the speed of 24/7 support in Portuguese.

Banco do Brasil Altus Visa Infinite Targets the Private Segment

Designed for account holders with at least R$ 5 million invested, the Altus grants a fixed 1.5% cashback.

The points do not expire, and the card guarantees unlimited entries into VIP lounges for the holder and guests.

The annual fee of R$ 1,800 is usually waived for bills above R$ 25,000.

Clients can also take advantage of a temporary promotion of up to 4 points per dollar, valid until September 30, 2025.

The Altus offers a dedicated manager, priority luggage dispatch, and extended insurance covering trip cancellations.

For many investors, concentrating spending on the card makes it easier to visualize cash flow on the Private platform.

BV Único Visa Infinite Varies the Rate Up to 1.5%

The BV Único starts at 0.3% and goes up to 1.5% when the bill exceeds R$ 10,000.

Spending from R$ 15,000 waives the annual fee, and the client decides whether to convert the balance into a discount or miles.

The card offers concierge service, travel insurance, and two free LoungeKey accesses per year.

Those who do not reach the maximum tier may prefer a product with a higher fixed rate.

According to BV, the scaling aims to reward loyalty from those who centralize expenses like school, condominium, and health.

The institution also promises to review limit increases every six months for compliant clients.

Amazon Prime Mastercard Returns 5% at Amazon

Amazon.com.br shoppers receive 5% back on purchases on the site if they are Prime members.

There is also 2% at pharmacies and restaurants and 1% on other transactions, all with no annual fee.

The points are automatically deducted from future purchases, eliminating redemption steps.

The greatest benefit is restricted to the platform; the card is more valuable for those who allocate a good portion of their budget to e-commerce.

As there is no issuance fee, many users keep Prime as a “secondary card” for electronics and books.

In addition to cashback, the card guarantees exclusive promotions on dates such as Prime Day and Black Friday.

When It Makes Sense to Switch Cards

Switching is worthwhile if the effective return exceeds 1.25% and if your monthly spending reaches the threshold for fee waivers or the maximum cashback rate.

Additional perks, such as VIP lounges or reduced IOF, may justify higher annual fees.

If not, keeping the Nubank and taking advantage of occasional retail campaigns may be more practical.

Before applying for a new card, check minimum income, required investments, or banking relationship history.

Also assess withdrawal fees, the cost of the dollar on the international bill, and the time frame for cashback credit.

Consolidating expenses with a single issuer typically accelerates benefits accumulation, but diversification can broaden specific coverages.

Reviewing contracts, understanding expiration dates, and monitoring regulatory updates are essential steps to avoid frustration with sudden changes.

With so many options beyond 1.25%, which cashback model fits your consumption profile best in 2025?
