The American multinational company Caterpillar, a metalworking company that has one of its factories in Piracicaba and employs many citizens of Rio das Pedras, announced that it will invest significantly in the expansion of its factory.
About R$ 600 million will be invested in the establishment of a grader manufacturing factory in Piracicaba. The area of the new venture in Piracicaba will have 11 thousand square meters and will produce for both the domestic and foreign markets.
The Caterpillar factory in Piracicaba has 27 new remote-controlled overhead cranes and will feature an automatic control system for assembly stages, a new hot-test concept without a cabin, and a smart mover system instead of tracks on the lines.

Caterpillar’s New Factory in Piracicaba Will Have More Space Compared to Other Factories
The new Caterpillar unit in Piracicaba will have 50% more space compared to the factory where the machines were previously assembled. The new space is expected to feature new machinery that will improve production time, making it more efficient.
In addition to the new assembly factory of Caterpillar in Piracicaba, there will be investments in the purchase of new production equipment, such as welding robots, introduction of new industrial processes, and overall optimization of the factory layout. A new building is also under construction and will have 12 thousand square meters to optimize the logistics process within the Piracicaba factory environment.
With New Factory Constructions, Caterpillar Grows 18.4% in Q2 to US$ 1.67 Billion
Caterpillar reported that the results obtained in the 2nd quarter of 2022 reflect favorable pricing conditions and higher sales volume, where the company reported a net income of approximately US$ 1.67 billion in the second quarter, an increase of approximately 18.4% compared to the same period last year. The profit increased about 10.5% on a yearly basis to US$ 14.25 billion.
Excluding non-recurring items, the adjusted earnings per share of US$ 3.18 exceeded the FactSet consensus of US$ 3.01. The profit, however, fell below the FactSet consensus of US$ 14.28 billion.
The data obtained by Caterpillar reflects favorable pricing conditions and higher sales volume, according to the company. Sales in the construction industries increased by 7% to US$ 6.03 billion, while energy and transportation sales rose by 15% to US$ 5.71 billion, with resource industries increasing by 16% to US$ 2.96 billion.
Meanwhile, operating costs rose by 10.8% to US$ 12.3 billion, and the operating profit margin contracted from 13.9% to 13.6%.
“Our team delivered another good quarter with double-digit revenue and adjusted earnings per share growth, despite ongoing supply chain challenges,” said CEO Jim Umpleby in a statement. “Our second-quarter results reflect healthy demand in most of our end markets.”
According to Caterpillar, profit in the third quarter could increase with higher distributions and price realizations, with the adjusted operating profit margin potentially improving in the second half of 2022.
