The State of Ceará Concentrates About 20% of Offshore Wind Farm Projects Throughout Brazil. They Are Close to Becoming One of the Main Sources of Clean and Renewable Energy in the Decarbonization Process of the Economy.
Last Thursday, (07/28), it was announced that the state of Ceará stands out in the offshore wind energy sector, concentrating about 20% of the offshore projects. Currently, the offshore facilities are in the process of environmental licensing with Ibama, but the offshore plants are already a reality.
The State of Ceará Has About 20% of the 58 Offshore Wind Projects Throughout Brazil
Thus, Brazil has more than 58 offshore wind energy projects, totaling 133 GW of capacity. Of these, about 20% are in the state of Ceará, and the production expectation is nearly 60% above the global average, because the geographical characteristics, such as shallow depths, proximity to the coast, and powerful, constant, and well-directed winds, enhance the results of the plants.
It is important to emphasize that every installed GW represents about US$ 2 billion in investments and more than 10,000 jobs created.

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

Fortescue announces a radical shift by replacing diesel with a system featuring 1.2 GW of solar energy, 600 MW of wind energy, and up to 5 GWh in batteries, a giant project that could save $100 million per year and transform heavy mining into one of the largest 100% renewable operations in the world by 2028.
“We should see new jobs related to administration and law for the drafting of contracts and business models, in engineering for project development, in schools and universities for professional training, in construction works, in the operation and maintenance of equipment, in the transport sector, and in various other activities throughout the productive chain of offshore wind energy production,” highlighted the coordinator of the Energy Center at the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC).
The development of the implementation of offshore plants is being guided by the detailing of the necessary regulations and also by the holding of a federal auction for the purchase of this new source of clean and renewable energy. This way, it will be possible to stimulate the evolution of this type of production, providing conditions for the harnessing of the giant potential existing throughout Brazil.
BI Energia Is One of the Companies with an Advanced Project
One of the companies with projects in advanced stages is BI Energia. The company began conducting studies back in 2016 when little was said about this type of production, and currently, the company already has more than 50 projects just waiting for approval. While the approval does not occur, the company continues with other research and projects, an activity that will considerably elevate the GDP of Ceará. The state is a pioneer in this green energy generation market.
“Brazil today already has 82% renewable sources and has enormous potential for the production of Green Hydrogen, which will be the fuel to replace gasoline and diesel. This production should not be limited to internal consumption; it is necessary to supply the largest energy consumers, which are the industrial, steel, and transport sectors. With H2V, there will be no more CO2 emissions, the great villain of the environment that has caused temperatures to rise in countries like Spain, France, and Portugal,” says Lauro Fiuza Junior, chairman of the board of Grupo Servtec Energia.
Moreover, the production of wind energy from offshore projects will be one of the main topics discussed during the FIEC Summit at the panel “Challenges of Offshore Wind in Brazil,” featuring the participation of the chairman of the Servtec board; Adão Linhares, executive secretary of energy and telecommunications of Seinfra; and Carlos Alberto Mendes, superintendent of Semace.
