Cemig SIM, Subsidiary of Cemig, Made an Investment of R$ 500 Million in Solar Energy for the State of Minas Gerais
According to the website of Cemig (CMIG4), R$ 500 million was invested in the construction of 20 photovoltaic solar power plants in Minas Gerais by its subsidiary, Cemig SIM. Additionally, Broadcast Energia reported that these plants will be implemented in 15 municipalities in Minas Gerais and will increase the power capacity that Cemig SIM can supply by 70 MWp.

In order for the project to start, it was approved by the holding company’s board of directors, and Cemig held a bidding process to begin the constructions. According to the publication by Broadcast Energia, the company plans to sell its solar energy under the distributed generation (GD) model when produced close to the consumption site.
In April of this year, Cemig SIM announced the purchase of 49% of the shares of G2 Energia and Apolo Empreendimentos e Energia, in a deal valued at R$ 37.2 million. According to the company, acquiring new shares of generating units is part of its ongoing growth and strategy to increase the share of energy available to the market.

The company adds that these amounts are part of its large investment plan, which by 2025 will total around R$ 22.5 billion in Minas Gerais. In addition to the R$ 423 million invested in the distributor, Cemig allocated R$ 51 million for the transmission area, R$ 14 million to modernize its power generation park, and R$ 11 million in natural gas infrastructure through Gasmig.

A large portion of investments in solar energy in Brazil is in Minas Gerais, leading to significant expected growth in this sector. Absolar reported that the state has already attracted R$ 9.7 billion in investments and that there are more than 16.4 GW operational in Brazil, with 1.8 GW in Minas. Furthermore, solar energy has generated 482,000 jobs for the country, of which 55,200 were in municipalities in Minas Gerais.
