A New Chinese Technology Brought to the World a Robot Dog Equipped to Act in Firefighting and Rescue Operations

A four-legged robot dog was deployed for rescue operations in a fire in the city of Changsha, Hunan province, China. This is the first time an quadruped robot, developed internally, has been used by a local firefighting and rescue team.

Created by the company DEEP Robotics, based in Hangzhou, the robot was nicknamed X30. According to the Global Times, the machine was designed to face challenges including extreme fires and rescue missions.

Additionally, the company highlights that the X30 has already been used in energy inspections, police patrols, and other emergencies.

Robot Dog X30: Resistance and Agility

The X30 measures approximately 1 meter in length, 50 centimeters in height, and weighs 56 kilograms. Designed to withstand extreme conditions, it can operate in both freezing temperatures and intense heat.

Another impressive feature is its ability to carry loads of up to 85 kilograms.

With a range of over 10 kilometers, the robot dog can reach speeds of up to 5 meters per second. This mobility is essential for navigating obstacles and quickly reaching dangerous areas.

Furthermore, the robot can be controlled remotely and has a bidirectional communication system, allowing real-time interaction with firefighters. This enhances safety and efficiency during operations.

Advanced Sensors for Risk Detection

Equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, the X30 is capable of detecting toxic gases and mapping environments in 3D, providing essential information for rescuers. This allows teams to have a detailed view of the scenario before acting.

Another important differentiator is its ability to operate in the dark. This is crucial for emergency situations where visibility is limited, such as fires in enclosed spaces or structural collapses.

Long-Lasting Battery and Quick Swap

The X30’s battery has a 25% longer runtime compared to previous models. Additionally, it can be serviced quickly, ensuring that the robot is always ready for use in emergencies.

With this technology, the robot dog can access high-risk areas without immediately putting firefighters in danger. According to the Changsha Evening News, the city’s rescue team highlighted that the X30 improved operational efficiency and increased rescuer safety.

Before its official deployment, the robot underwent fire and rescue simulations, demonstrating its capability to operate in complex scenarios.

Participation in Training and Real Operations

The X30 has already been tested in real missions. According to DEEP Robotics, it participated in the “Emergency Mission 2024” exercise in Zhejiang province.

In this operation, a firefighting team utilized quadruped robot technology alongside drones for chemical explosion risk reconnaissance.

Quadruped robots have superior adaptability to terrain. In the ‘Emergency Mission 2024’ exercise, the DEEP Robotics X30 robot dog was able to traverse complex terrain quickly and reach disaster sites promptly,” the company stated in an official release.

In recent years, China has stood out in the production of high-tech robots, expanding the use of these machines in areas such as security, logistics, healthcare, cleaning, and education. The X30 is another example of this evolution, bringing concrete benefits to emergency and rescue operations.

With information from interesting engineering.
