The model totaled 18,594 units registered by April, according to data from Fenabrave, ranking behind only Volkswagen T-Cross, Volkswagen Tera, Hyundai Creta, and Chevrolet Tracker in the segment ranking.

In this scenario, the advancement of Chinese manufacturers is no longer just a one-off movement. The ranking of the 40 best-selling SUVs in Brazil shows the presence of different brands from the Asian country among compact, medium, large, hybrid, and electrified models.
Besides the BYD Song, which occupies the fifth overall position, the GWM Haval H6 appears in 13th place, with 11,868 units registered. The list also includes Omoda Jaecoo Omoda 5, BYD Yuan, Omoda Jaecoo Jaecoo 7, GWM Tank 300, Leapmotor C10, and GAC GS4.
Chinese brands expand space among hybrids and electrified
The growing presence of these manufacturers occurs mainly in hybrid and electrified segments, increasing competition with traditional brands already established in Brazil. Models like BYD Yuan, GWM Tank 300, and Omoda 5 indicate that Chinese brands are beginning to compete not only in specific niches but also in higher volume categories.
The movement occurs in a market led by traditional models. The Volkswagen T-Cross closed the first four months in the lead, with 26,840 units registered and a 7.06% share among SUVs. Next comes the Volkswagen Tera, with 24,557 units, followed by the Hyundai Creta, with 23,793 units.
Among medium SUVs, the Jeep Compass also maintained strength during the period, with 18,323 units registered. The model remains ahead of Toyota Corolla Cross and GWM Haval H6, in a category marked by the competition between traditional brands and new hybrid and electric options.
Ranking shows change in competition
The Fenabrave list highlights a broader competition among different manufacturer profiles. While Volkswagen, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Jeep, Fiat, Honda, and Toyota maintain a strong presence among the top positions, Chinese brands are already appearing throughout the top 40.
The BYD Song is the main example of this advancement up to April. By entering the top 5 best-selling SUVs in Brazil, the model positions itself ahead of names like Jeep Compass, Volkswagen Nivus, Fiat Fastback, Fiat Pulse, and Honda HR-V.
In the large and seven-seater SUVs, the competition also includes models from different origins. The Jeep Commander remains ahead among the nationals, while Toyota Hilux SW4, Caoa Chery Tiggo 8, and Ford Territory maintain a significant presence in the category.
With 18,594 units registered in the first quarter, the BYD Song has become one of the main indicators of the change in the SUV market in Brazil. The ranking shows that the Chinese brands are no longer just niche alternatives, but direct competitors in a segment that accounts for more than half of car sales in the country.
