Lan Bowen, a Chinese teenager, creates a foldable cell phone with recycled parts and impresses technology giant Vivo.

At 17 years old, Chinese teenager Lan Bowen is turning heads in the music world. technology with a feat that combines innovation, sustainability and a lot of curiosity. He developed his own foldable cell phone, using exclusively recycled materials and a 3D printer for just 250 euros. The feat not only surprised the technology community, but also received public praise from renowned companies, such as Vivo, a Chinese smartphone giant.

The birth of a foldable cell phone

Inspired by the industry's growing interest in sustainable solutions, Bowen decided to reuse parts from five old cell phones to create an innovative device that combines features from established brands such as Nokia and iPhone.

But he didn't stop there: he decided to invest in technology foldable screen, a segment that is still growing and full of technical challenges.

According to information released by the French website JeuxVideo, the teenager needed five different panels to assemble the folding screen.

Testing was intense and the process required several design modifications to avoid failures when folding the display.

The design's unique feature is that the device folds out, and not inwards, as is common in current models on the market — a detail that caught attention on social media and generated a wave of praise for the young inventor's boldness.

Recycled foldable cell phone: promising concept, but in its early stages

Despite the creativity and positive impact, the foldable cell phone by Lan Bowen is still in an early stage of development.

One of the most critical points observed in the prototype is the thickness of the device: when closed, it has 1,6 centimeters, which makes it thicker than conventional folding models, which already face criticism for being less compact.

Still, the project is considered promising. The use of recycled components not only reduces environmental impact, but also represents a viable alternative to democratize access to technology.

Bowen's proposal is in line with a growing trend in the sector: the search for solutions that combine innovation and ecological responsibility.

Repercussion and next steps

The project had an immediate impact. Several users on social media shared the young man's initiative, while experts highlighted the potential of the idea.

Herself - Host Living, a reference in the Asian market, publicly praised the teenager's work, which could open doors for future partnerships or even technical support to develop the device on a large scale.
