The Transmission Tower Market in Brazil Can Now Take Advantage of the New UHS Technology Launched by Belgo Bekaert for the Strand of These Structures, Ensuring More Sustainability and Efficiency in the Construction Process.
Belgo Bekaert is, this Monday, (08/15), launching an innovative new technology for the transmission tower construction market in Brazil, the Ultra High Strength (UHS) strand, which allows for the support of even taller towers. Thus, there is a reduction in the resources needed for the construction projects of the structures and, consequently, greater sustainability with the minimization of waste, in addition to contributing to a reduction in costs for the projects.
New UHS Strand Technology from Belgo Bekaert Provides More Benefits to the Transmission Tower Construction Market in Brazil and Innovates the Sector
The construction of energy transmission towers in the national territory has just received a highly beneficial innovation for these structures, the new strand with UHS technology from Belgo Bekaert.
According to the company, the new technology allows for the support of taller transmission towers and consequently reduces the construction impact on nature by up to 15%, thus reducing the time, cost, and materials required for the tower construction plans.

Instead of hiring an engineer, mason, and construction company for months, Haus.me delivers an 11 m² micro-house that comes furnished, equipped with a kitchen, towels, wine glasses, voice control via Apple HomePod, and can withstand a category 5 hurricane; all for $89,990.
Moreover, sustainability in the sector will also benefit from the use of this new strand, as the ability to support even taller transmission towers minimizes the impacts on native vegetation where construction is taking place.
The UHS technology also features the highest break load in all of Latin America, 137.5 tons, which is 20% more than the current market standard, thereby ensuring even greater efficiency and quality in the construction processes of these structures.
Thus, the Director of Special Products at Belgo Bekaert, Rodrigo Kafke Brzuszek, commented on the importance of innovation in the transmission tower segment in Brazil and said, “It is gratifying to present an intelligent product to the market that strengthens the entire production chain. With greater break load and lower steel consumption, it enables increased spacing between towers, contributing to environmental preservation.”
One of the biggest problems in the energy transmission sector in Brazil is still the impact on native vegetation, and with the new UHS technology, this issue can be minimized over the coming years.
Chimarrão Energy Transmission Company Will Be the First to Use UHS Technology Strand
Although the UHS technology for the strand in transmission tower construction projects is new at Belgo Bekaert, Chimarrão Energy Transmission Company will already be the first to innovate in the sector. Thus, the partnership between Grupo Cobra and Cymi will utilize the structure in a project spanning approximately 1,200 kilometers, crossing 43 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.
The company’s data shows that it is using 640 tons of UHS steel cables to construct towers ranging from 25.5 m to 46.5 m in height, with an average distance of 500 m between the structures.
By utilizing Belgo Bekaert’s technology, there has been a 10% reduction in tower construction compared to a traditional project, thereby preserving an area of 31 hectares (310,000 m²) of the Atlantic Forest, equivalent to more than 40 soccer fields.
Thus, the energy market in Brazil now gains a more viable alternative concerning sustainability and greater efficiency regarding construction costs for transmission towers, and Belgo Bekaert continues to invest more in technology and innovation in the sector.
