Understand Uber’s New Recommendations on the Use of Air Conditioning to Ensure Comfort and Well-Being During Your Trips
In recent days, intense heat waves have led many people to opt for private rides with Uber, in search of more comfort and a cool environment, instead of using public transportation.
A common question that arises is: is the driver required to turn on the air conditioning?
The Dilemma of Air Conditioning: Comfort vs. Consumption
There are several reports online of passengers facing problems when requesting that app drivers turn on the air conditioning.

A French brand placed a car on four huge red balloons to prove that its suspension made the vehicle “float,” and the surreal scene became one of the most iconic and unusual images in automotive history.

Jeep Avenger begins production in Brazil, debuting as the brand’s new entry-level SUV and inaugurating an unprecedented phase by becoming the first national Jeep manufactured outside of Goiana, as part of a R$ 3 billion plan.

Costing R$ 12,490, the new Shineray Urban Lite 150 “cheap one” arrives in Brazil with a CVT transmission, digital dashboard, and LED lights, making it more affordable than the Biz and targeting those who want to abandon the bus.

Ducati brings to Brazil the Superleggera V4 Centenario: 228 hp that become 247 with a track kit, carbon fiber and carbon-ceramic brakes, estimated price between R$ 1.5 and 2 million, deliveries only in 2027.
The search for more comfort is one of the main reasons for choosing this service. However, using the air conditioning increases the vehicle’s fuel consumption by about 10%, which leads many drivers to avoid its use to save on costs.
In 2023, a story gained notoriety on social media: a passenger reported that an Uber driver was charging R$ 0.50 per km driven with the use of air conditioning, an unofficial fee imposed by the driver, requiring extra payment from the customer.
Official Position of Uber on the Use of Air Conditioning
In light of the repercussions, Uber clarified its position. On its official website, the company highlights two crucial points:
- Extra payments are not recommended: No passenger should pay additional amounts to drivers beyond what is charged by the platform, as this violates the company’s code and may result in the driver’s suspension.
- Air conditioning is not mandatory, but it is recommended: The use of air conditioning depends on the vehicle category. While it is not mandatory, Uber recommends its use to ensure the well-being of both drivers and passengers, especially in high temperatures.
Repercussions for Drivers and Passengers
Uber also emphasizes that all vehicles, regardless of category, must have the air conditioning in good working order.
Refusing to use it may result in trip cancellation, low driver ratings, and even passenger complaints, which may affect the driver’s access to higher tiers like Uber Black or VIP.
Impacts of the New Rules on Passenger Comfort and Driver Operations
With these guidelines, Uber aims to ensure a quality service, balancing passenger comfort and driver efficiency, thus promoting a more pleasant and safe travel environment for all.
