Workers with FGTS Balance in 2024 Will Receive a Share of Profits Until August. See How to Check the Amount.
Those who have a balance in the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS), whether in an active or inactive account, should pay attention: the FGTS Curator Council approved on Thursday (24) the distribution of R$ 12.9 billion in profits to workers.
The payment will be made by the end of August, but Caixa Econômica Federal intends to start deposits in the coming days.
The measure benefits about 134 million Brazilians who had amounts in the fund on December 31, 2024. The decision is part of the distribution of 95% of the total profit of R$ 13.6 billion obtained in 2024 by the fund.

The federal government is offering up to 90% discount to renegotiate debts on credit cards, overdrafts, and loans through the new Desenrola 2.0, which has already renegotiated nearly R$ 1 billion and has 200,000 requests under review at banks.
The amount to be received is proportional to the balance existing at the end of the year. Thus, the higher the amount maintained in the FGTS account, the greater the share of the profit.
The expectation is that deposits will occur between three and four days after the official publication of the decision.
How Will the Payment of FGTS Profit Be Made?
The payment will be automatic, directly into the accounts linked to FGTS. No application is necessary.
Workers who had a balance in fund accounts until December 31, 2024, even if inactive, will be entitled to a fraction of the profit.
The formula for calculating the amount to be received is simple: just multiply the balance that was available in the FGTS account on 12/31/2024 by the index of 0.02042919.
For example, a worker with R$ 1,000.00 in balance will receive about R$ 20.42.
Where to Check the Amount of the FGTS Withdrawal?
The consultation of amounts will be available through the official FGTS app, free for Android and iOS.
It is also possible to check through the Caixa Econômica Federal website. These platforms allow you to view the detailed statement and credits related to the profit distribution payment.
Profitability Exceeds Inflation
With the distribution of profits, the profitability of FGTS in 2024 reached 6.05%, according to the Ministry of Labor. This represents a performance above the official inflation rate for the year, which was 4.83%.
This scenario makes the fund more attractive for workers, who usually face yields below inflation.
In addition, FGTS is an important resource for emergencies and long-term planning, such as buying a home or retirement.
History of Profit Distribution
The practice of sharing part of the profits with workers has been adopted in recent years.
In 2023, for example, the FGTS council approved the distribution of R$ 15.2 billion concerning the profit from the previous year.
In 2022, 99% of the profit from 2021 was allocated— a total of R$ 12.7 billion.
However, the result for 2024 recorded a 41.8% decrease compared to 2023, when profit reached a record R$ 23.4 billion.
This reduction was mainly attributed to the increase in subsidies granted in the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program and the absence of atypical inflows like the Porto Maravilha project that occurred the previous year.
The Financial Movement of FGTS in 2024
According to Caixa, there was a 9% increase in fund collection in 2024, which rose from R$ 175.4 billion to R$ 192 billion.
This increase was driven by the growth of average salaries and the creation of new job positions.
On the other hand, withdrawals from FGTS also grew, increasing by 15% compared to 2023.
The amount withdrawn jumped from R$ 142.3 billion to R$ 163.3 billion, mainly motivated by the popularity of the anniversary withdrawal and emergency releases triggered by floods in Rio Grande do Sul.
Why Is the Distribution of FGTS Profits Important?
The payment of FGTS profit represents a way to enhance the balance of workers.
Even though the resources remain locked until specific situations (such as dismissal, retirement, or property acquisition), this annual credit helps protect the purchasing power of the retained money and encourages the maintenance of values in the fund.
Moreover, transparency in resource management strengthens workers’ trust in the system and pressures for greater efficiency in public policies involving FGTS.
