More than 50 years of delay in the fleet and lack of perspective lead seven FAB fighter pilots to exchange their military careers for higher salaries in civil aviation. (Image: Reproduction)

In recent months, the FAB (Brazilian Air Force) has been facing a worrying situation: the exodus of fighter pilots from its ranks. At least seven aviation captains, responsible for operating F-5 fighter jets at bases in Canoas (RS) and Rio de Janeiro (RJ), have requested discharge to join civil aviation, in companies such as LATAM.

Fighter pilots, considered the FAB's operational elite, receive rigorous training that takes about ten years to complete, at a cost of over R$100 million per professional. They are trained to perform the country's main air defense and combat missions, making their departure a major loss for the force.

According to an internal source at the FAB, the motivation for this wave of dropouts is the โ€œlack of perspective in a military careerโ€.

The delay in the delivery of Gripen fighters and the aging of the F-5 fleet, with more than 50 years of operation, make it difficult to carry out missions and demotivate professionals.

Chaotic situation

โ€œOur situation is chaotic. In addition to not being able to carry out our missions due to a lack of aircraft, we are now losing our pilots to civil aviation,โ€ the source highlighted about the FAB.

The issue is not only structural, but also cultural. A FAB colonel revealed that the importance of fighter pilots has been diminished within the institution.

โ€œToday, to advance in your career, you need to serve in the GTE, our special transport squadron that serves politicians with executive flights. This has become an unofficial criterion for promotion to the Air Force High Command, generating dissatisfaction among young pilots.โ€

With the departure of highly qualified personnel, the FAB faces a double challenge: the loss of valuable human resources and the lack of adequate equipment to maintain its defense capacity.

Meanwhile, fighter pilots find civil aviation a more attractive alternative, making the situation even worse. plus the crisis in the Brazilian Air Force.

Being a โ€œdriverโ€ for politicians is the best way to advance in your career. Poor disorganized forces, poor Brazil.

Every military man would be proud to serve his country, service should be the pinnacle of these professionals, but in Brazil even the military are mongrels and will sell themselves for any extra change!

Boy, just this year, 3 F5s have fallen due to defects, one was right here near my house. Imagine if these guys had to face neighboring countries that were then militarily updated.

The starting salary for an elite pilot should be higher than that of a federal deputy. Our fighter pilots are considered some of the best in the world. It's not easy to reach that level, and the training requires more effort and physical and mental skill than the American and NATO levels. Now the government is shitting on the honor of these guys. I would do the same as them.

They are not wrong, what is wrong is what they are doing with the Armed Forces. These bunch of **** want to end the force. Cutting resources and reducing salaries of the armed forces is fine as long as parliamentary amendments go billions into the pockets of these corrupt Brazilian parliamentarians who only care about themselves, that is, they do not care about the people they elected. A bunch of **** of public money who do not even hold a public exam and think they are powerful above the law.

Yes, I have! I am critical of Lula and especially of the PT, which has moved to the right and the Centrรฃo, but the modernization of the Armed Forces was planned and executed by the PT Government. In the previous Government, Bolsonaro was only concerned with chloroquine, picanha and **** for the Armed Forces.

Who decided to buy modern fighter jets? The PT. Who decided to replace the Sucatรฃo, the old presidential plane, banned from Europe due to pollution and noise? The PT.
Who invested in the Brazilian space program? The PT.
Who invested in the Brazilian nuclear submarine? The PT.
This is History, what they are trying to retell is a scam.
