Focusing on active safety, ergonomics, and quick maintenance, the new generation of Volvo loaders transforms the routine of large operations in Brazil.
Volvo Construction Equipment officially announced the arrival of the new generation of its heavy loaders L150 and L180 to the Brazilian market. Manufactured at the Pederneiras plant in the interior of São Paulo, the new models were developed to operate in sectors focused on civil construction, mining, and the industrial sector.
The manufacturer invested in a strategy that prioritizes active safety against accidents, agility in maintenance, and the operator’s well-being inside the cabin.

The Smart View monitoring system uses high-definition cameras installed around the chassis to generate a complete 360-degree peripheral view, displayed directly on the driver’s panel, which completely eliminates blind spots that often cause incidents with workers on foot.
Additionally, the machines received an intelligent collision mitigation device. Through ultrasonic sensors and proximity radars, the vehicle identifies hidden fixed or mobile barriers in the surroundings and emits sequential visual and sound alerts.
If the operator does not react in time, the automated system activates the brakes as a last resort to avoid severe impacts.
Externally, visual and structural improvements reinforce daily safety:
- Highlighted support points: Handrails and access stairs received orange paint to improve visibility and prevent falls during boarding and disembarking.
- Total lighting: Enhanced LED lamp packages ensure complete nighttime visibility, allowing operations to continue in continuous mode safely.

Smart workshop and simplified maintenance at Volvo
The structural design of the new generation was planned to drastically reduce the downtime for repairs.
The main difference lies in the flexibility of the cabin, which has an electronic tilting system capable of moving it at angles of 30° or even 70°, providing a direct and simplified channel for mechanics to access the deeper components of the chassis.
Complementing the practical maintenance package, the engine’s protective hood now features automated opening via electronic command, eliminating the worker’s physical effort.
Under the rear grille, Volvo engineering installed a dedicated service light to illuminate the engine, enabling efficient inspections at night or in areas with low natural light.

Digital ergonomics: the operator’s new office
The experience of those who spend long hours operating these giants has been completely redesigned. The new cabin offers an ergonomic environment equipped with USB ports, cup holders, new compartments for personal items, and adjustable armrests.
Considering the temperature variations of different regions of the country, the seats have active climate options to heat or cool the seat.
The operational control is distributed across two high-resolution screens:
- Main instrument panel: A dynamic screen positioned in front of the operator displaying the machine’s vital data, including fuel consumption, temperature, and pressure.
- Secondary Display (Co-Pilot): A configurable monitor that centralizes the integrated scale for load weight control, peripheral camera viewing, and air conditioning adjustments.

Mechanical Force Adjustments and Technological Transmission
Although the focus is on well-being and protection, the power base of the loaders received important updates. Both maintain the brand’s 13-liter engine, but calibrated for different capacities.
The L150 model operates with an operational weight of 25 tons and delivers 303 hp of power. The larger version, L180, works with 28 tons and generates 340 hp. Driveability has evolved with the new generation of the OptiShift transmission.
The reverse-by-braking system, which assists in gear shifting through the brakes to reduce mechanical impact, gained a new function: shifting gears while keeping the differential lock activated.
This ensures faster accelerations on unstable terrain and avoids fuel losses due to wheel slippage.
